ok, I dont really understand much about television technology so here goes. I am looking at two TV's. What is the difference between a standard definition digital television and a standard definition analog television. Both have composite, S-video, and component inputs. They are both 32" CRT's. What would be the advantage of the digital set?

What would be the advantage of the digital set?You won't have to buy a digital TV tuner in a couple years when broadcast TV goes all digital.
As the above poster said, you will have a digital reciever when analog goes away in the future.
The coolest thing that you get if you only have a roof antenna is that you will get numerous extra sub channels if you get the right set. I just recently bought a Sony XBR1 40 " HDTV that tunes in all the sub channels from each regular channel. That is to say for example here on the east coast the main VHF stations are 3, 6, and 10. They are analog while I now have 3.1, 6.1, and 10.1 that are digital and super crisp while the analogs are crap. ABC and CBS also have all day weather channels. Also, PBS stations have up to 4 sub channels and the WB came out with an all music video all the time station called The Tube.
So for anyone like myself not willing to spend $60+ per month on cable, this was a good way to go. Keep in mind, if the remote has no decimal point on it to allow you to tune in the sub channels, you won't see all the extras I just listed. The Sony Rocks!

Once everything goes digital and highdef in a few years I was told that the new standard for transmitting the signal would be HDMI. As they wont be tansmitting signals over analog cable. Is this right? So therefore I would have to buy something to convert HDMI to component? Even if I buy the digital set.
as opposed to the "standerd" form of transmition we have now? i highly doubt there will ever be just one standerd... they cant even staderdisez there new discs, i doubt everyone will agree on a cable in the long run
