Hi,

I have a question regarding how to play tapes that are missing either a "reel" or a plate. I have a number of tapes that just are winded on them self (?). There's nothing "guarding" it's back so to say and the risk of having the tape being left in a big pile of tape is rather big. How can i in a smooth way transfer it to a reel or a plate? There is a small NAB-HUB (not shure if this is the correct term) that the tape is winded upon, can this be used and "click-lock" it to a plate?

Hope you get what i'm looking for,

Cheers

What you appear to be referring to is tape shipped in "pancake" form. This form typically comes with a standard NAB hub, without flanges (sides of the reel). If you can find flanges compatible with your hubs, you can get hardware and flanges and simply attach them. If you cannot find compatible flanges and hardware, you can carefully mount the tape and "play" it onto a complete reel. Do not use fast mode to reel it up in this way, or, as you say, you could have a nasty pile.

Here is where you can get flanges, hardware, and reels: http://www.usrecordingmedia.com/takupreeland.html
