After a little back and forward writing with JBLmar i have decided to open a new thread about the Marantz 170DC.

We share the same opinion that the 170DC is a great amp and overshadow's the older types like 240 and 250(M)

I recently bought a great pair of speaker; the Klipsch RF-7 and on these baby's the170DC eat's those other mentioned amps for breakfast!

I have had alot of different amps on the workbench like; Quad 303,405.
Nakamichi stasis PA-7E, Bryston 4B ST,Denon POA-3000 etc....

But in my humble opinion the Marantz 170DC can easaly be messured with any amp!
Purely soundwise ofcourse.

What i want to know; Are there people on A.K. who own a 170DC and the bigger 300DC?

Does the 300DC sound's equal?

I have the 300DC and can't say enough about it. Very realistic sound with the large JBLs.

I have both amps that I switch in and out of one system. Also use the 510M in same system. Using a 170DC now.

Still have a 250 that gets pared with a 3300 pre. Just good old stuff!

If you get the 250 tuned up and working good, it's still a keeper.

I just got a 170dc today. Bulbs were blown so I got it cheap. Happened to have identical bulbs lying around as spares. Man she is nice when those blue meters light up. Its late now so I can't crank it. Im very impressed so far by its looks, size of the main transformer is jaw dropping and man it has smooth sound. I said a similar thing to my dad who was quite interested in it, that this amp could probably be compared to anything currently on the market in terms of sonic performance.

I have a pair of 300DC's controlled by a single 3650 and I have a 2130 tuner. Can't say enough about them.

I used to have a 300DC, which I liked alot. Beautiful sound and built like a tank. Separate power transformers and power supplies for each channel. Had a very live, up front sound to it.

I've got the SM-7 which is based off the 300DC if I recall correctly, its an excellent sounding amp.
