Hi,
I just bought a very old stereo at an auction ($20 Canadian). It's branded Baycrest (Hudsons Bay Company brand) but the turntable is a Garrard 2025TC which has an auto-changer and plays 16/33/45/78. It all seems to work fine (nice radio reception) a few crunchy bits on the volume and tone but probably just some contacts need cleaning. However, the turntable skips and skates all over the place - I managed to get a new stylus for it locally but it still jumps. The tone arms seems very light, but I can't work out how to adjust the force (it's a long time since I had a record player). Anyone able to help - I soooo want to listen to my vinyl again, it's been five years now! :tears:

Thanks

Welcome to AK James.

Did you try a google search? A few places list the service manual for sale. You can also try The Vinyl Engine website.

PS. moved to TT and Tape.

The tracking force may be adjusted by a spring underneath the arm back where it pivots. Relieving spring tension adds weight, adding spring tension reduces weight. Some of their better tables had non-calibrated counterweights that were adjustable as well. Regardless, you'll need a tracking weight gauge to get an idea of where you are with it.

What Celt says is correct.

You should also treat the rim of the idler wheel with rubber restorer.

Also . . . on nearly every Garrard, there's problem with trip pawl on the cycling cam. This freezes up and causes the arm to stick around the beginning of the last cut. To repair this you need to remove the cycling cam, pull out the pawl and clean out all the sticky grease.
