I've never heard of this model number pioneer cd player but it looks very expensive. Is this an older pre-elite model number? Looks like it has the stable platter mechanism.

No, it can't be pre-elite with digital optical output.
I've never looked into pioneers CD players because my Sony X333ES works fine, but other will know more in detail.

Damn, I was going to say it appears to be the same as my PD-59 but after checking out the link from dr. strangelove my player doesnt even compare. But so far I have heard nothing better, so its staying put.
