On one of those DIY links, a guy named Nick (in the UK) has made a couple of pairs of speakers using thin sheets of plywood and foamboard. Very light, but very stiff.
Sounds intriguing. How about a sandwich of foamboard inside sheets of 1/4-in plywood? I was thinking of using that technique for woofer enclosures. Just because I have some 1/4-in plywood, and some one-by and some foamboard. Separate enclosure for the mid & tweet would be typical, and be 'phase aligned' on top of the woofer box.
I've got lots of woofers, and need to think of something to do with 'em. Especially the pair of HPM-100 woofers (absolutely phenomenal construction), and the pair of Wharfedale 12-inchers (also castframes, very nicely done).
Oh, I would use MDF for the baffle, and a layer of nice thin veneer plywood. But still ...
Ideas?
