Howdy, I was told that The backs of Heresy's are week and can actually act as a passive radiator :sigh: Was told by the same guy that stiffening the backs will improve the bass. I seem to get pretty decent bass out of mine allthough I do have to turn it up a little past flat on the pre. They are 82 vintage and bone stock. I figured hey, ask the people who know. :D Thanks, Jay

I'd say that Heresy does lack a little in the bass. I'm not knocking the speaker as I own a couple pair which will be surrounds someday when I get around to it...but bass is their weak point. It's pretty easy to brace a cab so I may try that at some point. I'll be interested if someone has tried it.

I heard that if you replace the plywood backs with ones made from MDF that it helped a lot.

No time for a long reply but the addition of the braces (and L-pads) really made a difference in my Heresys.

What's an L-Pad? I've heard this term before, but am clueless. Jay

I used these good quality ones from Parts express:

One 8 Ohm for the tweeter, one 16 Ohm for the squaker.
L-pads are balanced resistor networks used to attenuate the levels of drivers without altering the impedance of the speaker.

I own a pair of the new Heresy III's and there is no lacking of bass whatsoever. That's one of the big improvements from the Heresy II model. I agree with the earlier mention of MDF that could possibly be one element that improved the bass. I believe Klipsch beefed-up the woofer as well.
Klipsch also redesigned the tweeter and mid-range horns and re-curved the crossover network. It's now one of the best-sounding speakers for its size that I've heard. I drive mine with an EICO ST-70 (35 wpc) integrated tube amp (vintage 1961).
