So I'm always on the lookout for neat ways to stack up and display stereo gear, and I'm happy to say I found another one!

I was wandering around Austin over the weekend and found myself in The Container Store. Not only do they sell the wire rack shelves that we've all bought at Lowe's or HD, but they sell them in several different sizes...a la carte!

So I bought 3 18" x24" Silver shelves, a set of 4 36" legs, and some rubber caps to protect the hardwood floor. I was out the door for $109 with tax, and I now have a really neat looking stand that will hold my new Kenwood 11G receiver and the rest of the gear in the small room. Need a bigger rack? Spec taller legs and more shelves....and best of all, they even stock all the little widgets you need to cover the wire shelves...plexi, butcher block, what have you.

A nice inexpensive option that beats the heck out of the off-the-shelf hardware store shelving.

Pics tomorrow!

Has anyone here tried the TNT Audio flexy rack? Three pieces of allthread a sheet of 3/4 MDF, assorted nuts and washers. The nuts cost more than everything else. :smoke:

Great rack! Though I've said that before :D

Nice Insignia's ... a suggestion to get them off the floor.. I use plant stands I get around this time of the year here (lot's of garden stuff on clearance)... for speaker stands... usually $10-15 each... my cheapskate speaker stand idea.

I freakin' LOVE metroshelves.....so versitile....I'm gonna ditch my crappy MDF entertainment center and just build something custom for myself out of metro's....hmmmm a nice rack with black plexi on the shelves....maybe black plexi on the sides down below with some custom doors for LP storage  AND I'm moving to Austin, so now I know where to buy it all!! :D

The store is pretty amazing...

As for the Insignias on the floor, I scored a set of 31" Sanus stands today for $10...they will be pressed into immediate service :)

I found this setup while browsing kmart recently
http://www.kmart.com/catalog/ensemble.jsp?ensembleId=316&N=0&Nty=1&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Ntt=vision%20wood&from=search

if the link doesn't work search for "vision wood" at kmart.com

they don't have any set up in the store to test for wiggle, but they are dirt cheap. Each shelf can supposedly hold 40lbs so its gotta be somewhat sturdy. I think I'll pick the medium three shelf guy up, assemble, and see how sturdy it is. I'm sure the build quality isn't great but its definitely a CHEAP fix.

Oh yeah, where did you find $10 Sanus stands? I'm guessing that wasn't a store
purchase?

i've tried stands from wally world, zellers, homedepot, and most of them aren't strong enough to hold older gear so i built a TNT flexy thingy, and it works great, total cost was about 75.00 give or take, and took a few hours, i left the mdf plain, included are some pics.

I love my TNT flexy-rack-thingie (whatever it's supposed to be called). Very strong! It'd be a disaster if my tube components hit the floor....
