If you go to the internet you can buy real absinthe. I bought four bottles of Czech Strong Absinthe and all I can say is that it was one of the most horrendous tasting fluids that I have ever drank! I don't know if it was psychological or not, but the dreams that I have had after drinking it seemed more vivid than any that I've had lately. I would say that it's worth it for the epicurious. As an aside it was delivered to my house wrapped very well in bubble wrap with bath oil written all over the box in magic marker!

Absinthe? Count me in. I'm still partial to Pernod (always reminds me of the Velvet Underground at Max's Kansas City LP). Apparently, it was the supposedly psychotropic wormwood ingredient that led to it being outlawed until recently.

Hi
try the original Pastis 51 (http://www.spirituosenworld.de/produkte/bitter/details/pastis51.html)
it doesnT turn that yellow, but i like it much more then Pernod. Lived off it a few weeks in Tunesia and i guess it saved me from stomache problems everyone else had after 2 weeks there...
but Pernod, Ricard, Pastis - all ain't Absynth

The Czech stuff is especially nasty, a cross between mouthwash and lighter fluid. Most decent absinthe comes from France or Switzerland these days.
For those like me who'd never heard of it! (http://www.absinthebuyersguide.com/faq.html)
Interesting read...

Pernod tastes nothing like the absinthe I've had, I like Pernod however like a supercharged anisette.
