ok, here's my idea. I have an older (early 90's) Sony Pro-Logic receiver that I currently use for my TV’s 5 speaker surround setup. I also have a vintage (1960) Dynaco all-tube system that I use exclusively for music. I want to be able to use them both simultaneously when I am watching movies. The Sony is pretty good, but I think it would be great to bring some tube warmth to the front side while I'm watching flicks.
The Sony has inputs and outputs for Video 1, Dat, Tape 1 and Tape 2. I assumed that when I went out from Video 1 (the channel I use for TV) on the Sony receiver to my Dynaco Preamp that my idea would work. For some reason I get a really faint signal, or no signal at all going to the Dynaco. If I go straight out of my TV into the Dynaco it works great, but then there is no Sony in the chain. Anyone know how to get them both to work at the same time?

I'm guessing that output from Video 1 is available only when the receiver is configured in a certain way intended for using the TV's internal speakers. Try using Tape Out which is likely "live" no matter the input source or configuration. Without a preamp output on the receiver, you will of course have to adjust two volume controls (the receiver's and the Dynaco's) to maintain balance between front L/R and the rest of your speakers.

BTW, though it is a somewhat more elaborate setup, I use my tube Dynakit amp for the front L/R channels of my HT setup and it works very well.

Rich, I had already tried what I thought was every option, including tape out. Strange thing is, if you go into the tape input (into the Sony) and then tape out (to the Dynaco) it doesn't work. If you go into Video 1 and then go out of the tape out, it works great. Anyhow, it works and it sounds pretty cool. It definately adds dimension to the front of the room. Thanks for your help!
