I thought I'd wait until I had a decent story to tell before posting for the first time on Audiokarma. About a month ago I stopped by an SA in town and saw a Dual 1219 on the shelf for $12.99. I've known Dual to be high quality since playing a lot of Yes, Lou Reed, and Weather Report (among many others) on a friend's Dual in Cincinnati in the mid 70's. Now, I didn't really need another TT but I remembered someone's post in another forum about how he passed on a Dual 1229 and found out later that one was going on ebay for over $400. I bought it even though the cartridge mount (and cartridge obviously) were nowhere to be found on or around the TT. Thinking that the mount (TK-24) would be a fairly easy get, I looked around and found some for sale at on-line shops for as high as $45 plus shipping. I lost in a couple ebay auctions and really wasn't excited about paying upwards of $20-30 dollars plus shipping for the piece. I suspected that I was spending way too much time on this quest so the TT went into the closet for safekeeping until I could find the mount at a reasonable price (or justify the purchase to my wife). I play tennis on Thursday nights and finally had a small lead on my nemesis in this league until a thunderstorm hit and we were rained out last night. I drove home kind of ticked that I got rained out and decided to stop in to the GW on the way home from the courts. I walked in and what did I see? A mint condition Dual 1245 (with TK-24 cartridge mount AND almost new Stanton cartridge) for $7.00. Hooked it up today and it sounds great. Haven't tried the mount and cartridge in in the 1219 yet. Don't know which TT I'll eventually keep but it seemed like a dose of "Audiokarma" to me. What do you think?

Welcome aboard! :thmbsp:

What a great story. Patience pays off. Btw, we love pics. Post some of that TT when you get a chance.

Great story. I love my dual 604 and would buy it or any other dual in a heartbeat especially at those prices.

Jeez. When you wait to put up a decent post, you make it a real show-stopper. :tears:

Welcome, Elberon! Very nice narrative (Dual 1237 spinning Beatles as I type!), and yeah, that's a showstopper!

Thanks for your welcome to Audiokarma as well as the responses to my story. I realized that in my zeal to tell a good tale I mistated one of the facts. The Dual 1245 was bought for $8.00 plus tax and not $7.00 as I wrote originally. I'm guessing that would have been a deal breaker for some people. The old "fish story" mentality must have kicked in as I was writing. I swear that all of the rest is true. I'm going to the beach this week but will post pictures when I return.
