With all the bourbon talk around here, as I sit here sipping one of my favorite cocktails, a Manhattan, I was wondering if any other AKers enjoy them? Or if not, what's some other favorite bourbon recipes?

Here's JD's Manhattan recipe:

3 oz. bourbon (tonight it is Old Forrester)
1 tablespoon of Grand Marnier
1 tablespoon Sweet Vermouth
Couple of dashes of bitters
A dash of cherry juice and/or add a cherry

Stir, serve over ice.

Mmmm tasty.

I like to get them out on the town but have never tried to make one. Have a good Old Fashioned recipe?

I've never actually had a Manhattan. Usually I don't like to mess with my bourbon but the recipe of yours JD sounds might tasty!

My personal favorite cocktail. 2 1/2 shots bourbon, 1/2 shot sweet vermouth, tsp cherry juice (or what ever that goo is the cherries are packed in), and extra cherries, please. Shaken with ice, then strained, served in a martini glass. I usually skip the bitters. Bourbon? On the cheap, (and highly rated at tastings.com),Buffalo Trace. Also Makers Mark. A little better, Woodford Reserve. Better still? Blantons...which is my favorite for the money. Beyond that? Start dabbling with the 15+ year old stuff, but they get way more expensive, and I really havent found one I like that much better than the Blantons. As for Buffalo Trace and tastings dot com, they rate it above both Woodford Reserve and Blantons....I cannot agree with them on that! Awfully bold talk in my opinion.....just a matter of tastes i guess. I also dont agree with some of their anejo tequila ratings either. Mint julips anyone?

Ooohhh, one of my favorites!

I never actually make them myself, but one of my golfing buddies, and fellow LP lover, makes great ones when we all meet at his house to shoot pool. I'll have to get his recipe!

I like 'em. Knob Creek works well.

Up here, a Manhattan is usually made with Canadian Rye whiskey. Still a very tasty concoction, and one of my favourite cocktails. My brother's father-in-law makes his Manhattans with Southern Comfort. A little too sweet for me.

Then again, if you use Sloe Gin, Southern Comfort and OJ, you get...

...a Slow Comfortable Screw.

Back in my heavy-imbibing, party days, I had a drink called the New York, New York.

It was a Manhatten and four shots of whiskey. The additional four shots were for the other four 'burbs. Couldn't leave them out, you know...
