I am the original owner of a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls bought in 1978. They still sound as good as ever anyway I have read that you should open them up and turn that woofer over. I am hesitant to do this so I am curious if anyone has bothered and whether it was very difficult ?? Any audible benefits ? Anything else that needs doing while I'm in there ??
thx

The cones, suspensions, and/or VC's in speakers can sag due to the influence of gravity. Speakers with extremely heavy/strong magnets (e.g., Lowthers) are notorious for sagging and definitely benefit from periodic rotation. The magnets on the 15" woofers in later Cornwalls such as yours (and mine) aren't really that heavy; I am not sure it's worth it per se... but it wouldn't hurt!
That being said... it is WELL worth re-tightening the screws that hold the woofer to the front baffle. They do loosen over the years, and the effect can definitely be audible (i.e., rattle). Take a look at this thread:

Hope this helps.

The spider is another issue. I have my JBL 2225H's in their same position since 1985 and they have heavy 18.5 LB magnets. I have removed them to re-veneer the cabinet, however. If you don't hear any VC rub, you're fine. Any doubt, just turn them over. No harm there.

Don't know if this applies to those particular woofies or not, but another reason for turning them is when the speaker surrounds have been doped (Altec, CTS, etc.) with a "goo". That stuff tends to "head south" over time. Rotating 90 degrees will redistribute the goo.

Every few months, I just turn mine upside down...sort of like rotating tires.

What about the squawkers and tweeters? Should they be turned over as well?

My Warfedale W70s had a noticeable buzz. That's how I found AK, in fact, looking for a solution. I was told to rotate the woofer, and sure enough it fixed it. If there's no problem, I don't know that you have to do it, but it can't hurt.
Take care,

I rotate the K33 woofers every 5 years. Mids & tweeters do not need rotating.
