The good news - I'm sitting at home this morning waiting for UPS to deliver my new Mac preamp. The sad news - I'll be retiring the C26 that I've owned for approx 30 years and which has brought me unestimated hours of joy and entertainment (along with a MC2125 that I sold last year). I always thought that I would keep this preamp for a second system, or just to have, since you can't get all that much for a C26 these days. But then I think that I should sell it so that someone getting started with Mac can have the enjoyment that I've had. I kind of feel bad thinking of the C26 sitting, not being used but the sight of it brings back memories all the way back to my college days. Any one else have this kind of weird emotional attachment to a piece of stereo equipment? Maybe that is one of the many things that sets Mac apart from other equpment.

I still have a Mac6100,and a Mac1700, and plan to use them somewhere one of these days. If an appreciative family member wanted it and would use it, I'd give it to them, but would keep it rather than sell it for a couple hundred $$$.

I'd keep it for a few months and then switch the new pre with the C26 to see what the difference is. Just be careful and don't make any foolish decisions. :)

No, no, wait! Sell it to a member here named GaryP! Yea, that's the ticket!

Now, how does one delete posts again.... :scratch2:

I have a MC2100 which my father purchased in 1972. It was his first (of many) piece of McIntosh equipment, and he used it for nearly 30 years. Many of my memories with my father center around listening to music and attending operas, and those involving listening in the home involve the MC2100. While I don't use the MC2100 on a day to day basis, I do occasionally plug it into the system for awhile. Not as much resolution as the current McIntosh amps, but still a very good amplifier that leans toward a warm, smooth sound. So while I don't "need" the MC2100 on a daily basis, I will be keeping it for the memories it provides.

Put it away under the boxes in the closest and hold on to it. Amazing what happens just after you sell old friends. I still have my MC250, C28 and MR77 all purchased new 30+ years ago and once in awhile I pull the system down thinking to change. The 250 has been retired form the main system for a 2105. But the 250 pulls duty at the odd times and I could not imagine losing it. Nor the 28.

Surprisingly, I too find that after some months with the flavor of the month, the oldies need to go back into service for a fix that tells me that they are too much a part of me to go.

The C26 is increasing in resale value so whehter you sell today or hold it will not depreciate.

I agree completely. :)

I have the same problem with my MC2500,my first piece of Mac equipment.I just had Terry D. go through it in anticipation of selling it to help finance a purchess of a c2200 or c220.The beast needed absolutly no parts or work other than to clean a dirty power gaurd light lens, and it still put out 600w/channel before it hit the power gaurd according to Terry. It is still sitting on it's stand as I just can't seem to part with it.I just keep comming up with reasons not to sell it.I hope to pass all my stuff on to my son in the end,I bet it will provide many more years of service for him.
