I've noticed that as soon as there is any kind of significant weather outside, satellite reception goes down the tubes. I just came across the following product that you can spray on your dish. Has anyone tried this? Or has anyone used another product to help keep your reception good despite overcast skies?

Rain, snow and ice covering a satellite dish can interrupt TV reception, causing lengthy programming outages.
Ahh it is not the rain or snow on the dish that takes out the signal but those real big clouds in the sky. If you believe this I have some magic beans you can buy.

Actually, snow used to pile up on our dish and cause ghost images... :scratch2:
I just sprayed the dish with spray silicon and that problem never happened again... :thmbsp:

Also have heard of people using pam to prevent ice/snow buildup.

How old is your dish?

Reminds me of when I was in the car business, and sold paint sealant. Would be
great if it really did work.

It was a new dish about 5 years ago, using Directv. I've sinced moved to the city and now hooked up with cable.

Was it a big dish because I have never had a problem with my small dish and I live in alberta.

It's the nature of the beast to lose signal during heavy weather. I loose my signal during periods of heavy rain or snow, and only then. I have had both digital cable and sat and prefer the sat for sound and picture quality.
I had snow build up on my dish last year, which messed with the signal. Brushed it off and all was well. :smoke:

Nope, it was only about 18" in diameter... I did not think that the snow would effect it either. Sure enough, just like Urizon said... "brushed it off and the image was fine again."

I made the mistake in throwing out DishNetwork and brought DirecTV in. In the last couple months we've lost satellite more times than all of 8 years with Dish. Guess where I'll be going after the year is up?
And it's always rain clouds, snow has never bothered here other than needing to shovel the roof off.

So the general consensus on this one is that this is Snake Oil in a spray can.
Yes, I have the small dish too: Bell Expressvu dish. A larger dish gives you better reception in bad weather? It is probably about 5 years old...you figure they have something better now?

The original Dish-Network dish/reciever combo I got in '99 lost signal during storms fairly often, but the latest upgrade (about 2 years old) is great. I lose signal only during the worst of storms, and then only for a few minutes. I'll echo Urizen's comment about preferring satellite to cable, as I've had very little trouble in almost 7 years of usage, and the signal is far superior IMO.
To actually address the original item in question - Screams of BS to me!:D

It is all about connections. If cable techs use the proper fittings (ones with the rubber ends) cable will easily produce a better picture.
