A folded peice of printer paper has made my night so very enjoyable. I measured my speakers to be 1.5 lengths of my picture frame away from my tv in the center...which is roughly 5 feet, and then i pushed the folded paper on to the back of my advents (stacked on ESS amt10B's for height) and along the wall with it at the same time. perfect mcguiver measurment system.

the soundstage is absolutly wonderful. the center stage is RIGHT in front of you, it feels like voices are 4 feet in front of you becuase the tweeters, directionally, meet in a straight line, or atleast i'm assuming that has to do with it. makes sense. one of the best tweaks i've ever done. and my wire still are on the ground.

How is proper speaker placement a tweak?

Na I guess it was the paper, right?

I suppose that anything you do to your system could be considered a tweak - even if it's positioning your speakers.

If you go to Cardas Insights and follow their room set up instructions, is that a tweak? I'd say "yes". So for a more simplistic set up, I'd consider it a tweak, too!

I consider it logic but hey everyone is different. Kind of like turning on your amp to power your speakers.

:nono: That kind of radical discussion does not go over well here at AK! :nono:

Oh, don't worry about it, Kasra! There are a lot of tweaks like this and they go all the way up to the unbelieveable!

Play around with the speaker direction and you'll notice the sound stage expand & contract. Aim the tweeters at you - ear level - and see if you like it that way better. Place the speakers closer to the wall - more bass? Less bass? All speakers are different and some say that positioning them is CRITICAL. I agree with this idea....

Most importantly - enjoy your system & speakers - they're great!

Rock on! :)

Kasra, nothing debatable in your definition at all. The actual definition of a tweak in this context is:
"To adjust; fine-tune"

Can't imagine anything more tweaky that what you are doing. It is incredible how important speaker placement is and how few people actually spend the time to get it 100% right for there room. Surprisingly difficult to do also. I very wise man taught me just this week that if the speakers are adjusted properly for your room, even moving your head back and forth 6 inches will make a difference.
Tweak away, Kasra. Please feel free to share any other speaker placement tips you may find.
THanks
Erik

''if the speakers are adjusted properly for your room, even moving your head back and forth 6 inches will make a difference. ''

i've felt this. i wish there was just a little bit more room for variation, actually. it gets tiring sitting still like that!

<SNIP>it gets tiring sitting still like that! You just made a strong argument for headphones! :naughty:

I like playing with the speaker positions - I've tried them horizontal, too - you can get some ... uh... "interesting" effects turning them tweeter-in, tweeter-out.

Running the speakers horizontal should reduce the apparent bass. Moving them to the corners should increase the apparent bass. Have fun!
