Mini Brilliant Pebbles for placing on top of the CD, DVD or SACD player directly above the transport area centered above the spindle.
The 1 1/2 inch "Mini" Brilliant Pebbles is intended for the top of CD, DVD and SACD players above the transport, on Helmoltz Resonators (such as Room Lenses) and proximity to tube electronics. For CD, SACD, DVD players, the Mini BP should be centered directly above the spindle of the transport.

Signed up for the Mini Brilliant Pebbles are:
1) Gary P
2) Holst
3) Tedrick
4) Sansui Louie
5) Dnewma04
6) Andyman
7) Theodoric
8) Tonedeaf
9) Grainger 49
10) Kenyonbm

Did I miss anyone?

Note to "Mini" Brilliant Pebbles testers: the small bit of cotton in the top of the bottle should be removed prior to listening tests; please replace prior to shipping to prevent the stones from breaking the glass. The "Mini" bottle glass is rather thin so a bit fragile...

When using the "Mini" on top of CD/SACD player, best if bottle placed precisely above the transport spindle.

Thanks, Geoff at Machina Dynamica

Moderation Note:

The whole point to TOL is to avoid all of the usual speculation and "scientific" pronouncements and to focus on actual experience with the products. Empiricism over theoreticism, with no mockery allowed.

So...Unless you've actually tried these yourself, you can't comment. Don't be surprised, or gripe, when your posts are deleted.

I stand corrected. I should have read the sticky. Sorry.

I received the pebbles today. Will begin testing. Also intend to use them during two live sound shows I'm mixing FOH for this weekend, to see if they have any performance benefits in that area.

After extensive testing, here are my results.

System 1:

Pioneer:
SX-3900, CT-F650 (2), PL-570 w/AT-440ML, SG-9800, RG-2
Technics: SL-1401 w/Shure V15 II
JBL R-103 12" 3-way
Kenwood 408B 12" 3-way

Room: Approx 14x14, maple floor, drapery at rear center of sound field, stone fireplace at left wall, plaster wall to right, all old-skool plaster on lathe.

I started by placing one jar on each turntable plinth. For music, I chose Badfinger's "Straight Up" on vinyl, giving each turntable a turn at Side One. I then removed the jars of Brilliant pebbles and repeated the process.

Next, I played track one from each album on each turntable, both with the jars in place, then without them in place.

Next, I moved the pebbles to the label area of the record and let them rotate with the disc as I repeated the procedure, then removed them once again.

I then put my bands latest CD, "Chew On THIS!" and placed both jars on the CD player, a Samsung DVD unit of model that I considered irrelevant as it's just modern digital junque. I A/B'd several tracks, both with one jar, two jars and no jars.

I then tried putting the jars on the fireplace mantel, next to some candles. They were quite attractive there.

System 2:

Sansui QRX-7500, Sansui SP-2500X, SP7500X, arranged in a typical quad setup. Pioneer PL-550 with Grado Black. Room, approx 8X8, hardwood floor with area rug, plaster on lathe, cloth curtains on two windows.

Same vinyl recordings, same test procedure, minus the fireplace mantel.

Live Audio Test One:

"The Fuzzy Duck", Marshfield, WI. Dank biker bar with two small rooms, one of which is in the rear of the bar, where the band sets up. The three piece power blues trio, "Dirty Ernie" http://www.dirty-ernie.com was performing.

Set one: Jars placed on top of the speaker system (2x12 + Horn Carvin cabs atop Behringer 18" subwoofers).
Set two: Jars removed.
Set three: Jars placed on the sound board.

Live Audio test Two:

Mickey's Billiards, Schofield, WI http://www.mickeysbilliards.com
Band: Once again, Dirty Ernie. Same PA setup, same tests.

Conclusions:

I was unable to discern any differences, nor could the three members of Dirty Ernie, who were my houseguests for the weekend, nor could my girlfriend.

They're pretty rocks in pretty jars. For someone interested in purchasing pretty rocks, with or without jars (you could always provide your own), a more economical solution as well as a wider variety might be had by visiting this Madison, WI landmark business: http://www.burniesrockshop.com/

Uhm . . . . . Could I get you to pass them on? The pebbles don't seem to have moved since Sansui Louie has had them.

I am also on the list for the Large Brilliant Pebbles that Holst sent to S/L back in November.

Thanks in advance,

They must have worked for him, as he seems to not want to let them go....
