Hello everyone! I'm a new female here and just wanted to say that I love the idea of a room for the ladies (although I enjoy the other rooms also). I have a love for great sound (not just music) but how it sounds coming out of the speakers. Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself and say I'm ready to explore. Question, how do I go about getting an avatar?

Welcome. Go to User CP (at top) then hit Edit Avatar. Self explanatory from there.

Hi Miss Meower,
It does my heart good to know there is a female member here. I am always longing for a female to grace this site. It sets the balance right and makes my Universe function perfectly.
The males usually try to be in their better behaviour too! All in all, you are a blessing! Welcome :-)
Thank you :-)

A mystery no longer! Nice to see you! :tresbon: Getting back to the original question here, I don't know much about JBLs, inspite of having worked next door, at Harman Electronics in Northridge. (We lived out there for 7 years.) Do they have to be JBLs? Are you open to other speakers? If so, I'd like to suggest DCM TF-700's or TF1000's. I think if you give them a listen you might like them.

I prefer JBL's. I heard that the drivers in the speakers you suggested aren't very good. I know just enough to be dangerous..I've been looking and I know what I don't want. I'm considering having custom speakers built based on Radian coaxials. Tannoy is nice too. I listened to these Soundwave PS 4.0 speakers a few years ago...are they still around? Does anyone know? How about suggestions on power? All I have right now is an old Rotel receiver.

Rotels are cool  but you need to get some tubes girl. Do you listen loud? What sorts of music do you like? I'm just wandering how much power you need. Ever listen to any horns? So many questions :scratch2:

To me, tubes are great for certain things and not as great for others. If you want that mellow, silky-smooth sound, get tubes! For something more dynamic and energetic, SS is my choice. To each their own.
I have a Rotel RB1080 in my main system. Nice amp, but a little dry, for lack of a better term. I've heard better.
I'm into vintage integrateds. For solid state, if you like integrateds, check out the one in my avatar (Sansui AU-9500). Or better yet, one of the later AU series - 919, 717. I've heard that the 9900 kicks butt too. I'm sure the BA series rocks if you like separates.
I've heard some really nice Yamaha integrateds too. The A-1 looks cool and runs crystal clear, but not huge on bass amplification.
It's hard to go wrong with older or higher-end JBLs. I'm also a big B&W fan. Also check out electrostatics. Of course I've just mentioned a huge range in prices - it all depends on how much you want to spend.

Jay, let's play 20 questions and have the "lady" divulge all her tastes for her listening pleasure and if we start asking for "nudies" or "toppless" pics feel free to assume they are of your electrical equipment welcome aboard
I had to read that twice :smoke: I would agree with John on Yamahas sounding nice. The very last SS I let go was a Yamaha. I wish I would have kept it for testing speakers and such. Tubes can be a pain for workbench tasks. I'm not sure what "alternative" is, but a lot of 80's retro sounds great on tubes with the right speakers. I'm currently using some JBL Dorians with LE-14 drivers for a rock set-up on tubes and they work really good IMHO. JBLs can still be had at thrifts too, with enough determination mixed with a lot of patience. I lucked on to mine at a junk shop after only a hundred or so stops. :D You know meower, we have a member who's wife built her own tube amp. Check out the DIY forum here. I don't think you would have ANY trouble getting plenty of help :thmbsp:

OK, guys, I think we've greeted Meower sufficiently - reading through the thread will show that some have greeted her more than once. Lots of interesting stuff about audio questions here, let's take it to the regular forums which are for such discussions.
