I was talking to a friend at work about my interest in music, especially 78's. She mentioned that she had an old RTR that belonged to her dad. Her brother tried to make it work but couldn't. They tried to sell it at an estate sale for 50 bucks but nobody bit. She offered it to me for the same price, but refused to take my money until I picked it up and tried it.
I went by her house and packed in its original box was an Akai 280D-SS surround sound deck. I took it to the car and she said "You're not done yet". We went back and also loaded, in their original boxes:
A Sansui QR-4500
Two Sansui SP 1200 speakers.
Also included was all the original manuals, including repair manuals, various paperwork including original bills of sale and two cases of BASF 7" tape.
I got it home and fired everything up. The Akai worked just fine, they evidently didn't read the instructions and didn't have it set up. There's a little rumble in the right front channel, but I think that won't be too hard to clear up.
The Sansui receiver checked out just fine. I haven't done a DC offset check on it yet though. Both speakers are in good shape and don't sound bad for early '70's speakers.
I know squat about Sansui but I guess what I have is middle of the road surround sound equipment.
