View Full Version : La Scala to Cornwall swap??

Rather than hijack Cubdogs' Cornwall thread, I'll start a new one for my Sunday morning musings.......

What would it sound like if I built a set of Cornwall cabs and installed my La Scala drivers? Are the drivers the same in the Cornwalls and the La Scalas/K-horns??? That mid horn looks narrower and the crossover certainly is different.

I ask because I hear quite a bit about the bass of the Cornwalls bettering the La Scalas, plus it really wouldn't be that hard to build a "test" Cornwall cab; it's really just a box, and I'm sure plans are avaiable all over.

Thoughts???

The LaScala's have a ton of bass when Altec drivers are used, I'll have to get you into South Lyon to hear these, the hall has been very busy all summer so I've been staying away from there, Dave. Bistro 127 (http://206.225.95.32/forums/showthread.php?t=51468)

I remember those; too bad that last minute event put the kibosh on that gathering you had planned out there.
Let me know if you set something up and I'll be there!!

A few over on the Klipsch forum have done this "Cornscala" mod with great results. Check this out.

You can look at an earlier version here. These are easy to build and sound great. Built the first of these as a driver test box to quickly test rebuilt drivers, but sounds so good that they became my favorite speakers for music.

The Cornwalls are great speakers but I'll take the "kick" of the LaScalla's folded horn loaded 15" anyday...(I love my "Belles")

But as always it's a matter of personal preference and you should go with what sounds best to you.

Good luck!

Andy---You'll get what is IMO a MUCH better sounding speaker with greatly improved bass and robust tonality.

Of course when taking the K-33 woofer out of a horn and using it as a direct radiator when must then ask the question "why don't I now use a better woofer?"
