After scoring my first Klipsch speakers (KG4s) and paying a little more attention, I have noticed a few 4.2s popping up. Is there a short story as to the difference (ie, newer and a few differences) or they a complete different unit? They appear similar in the few photos I've seen. Maybe I should have some of those, too!

4.2s and 4.5s are completely different speakers...I agree, listen to some of the Heritage line and then make your decision...I have never found anyone who prefers the sound of the 4.2s or 4.5s to the kg4s but I have not heard any of them...almost got my chance to hear kg3.5s (KM-4s) but UPS destroyed them on delivery...

I have the opportunity to get a set of the 4's for $125 (passives need new foam), and a set of 4.2's for $150. I really want the 4's, but I really don't have the $$$ right now! Maybe I can sell something to gather up the $$$... One good thing, the guy That is selling these is gonna hold onto them for me till I can get the $$$ :thmbsp:

I think the 4's and 4.2 differ greatly.
4's use 2 active front mounted bass drivers and a rear mounted passive radiator.
4.2's use a single active bass driver and a front facing radiator.
(You may find that placement is more of an issue with 4's)
I would classify the 4's as Jazz/classical finesse speaker as opposed to the 4.2's a more powerful rock and roll oriented in-your-face speaker, begging to be pushed louder and louder and cranking out room shattering volumes effortlessly with no distortion.

I have a nice pair of 4's in walnut. They are, without question, one of my favorite speakers. I've never personally listened to the 4.2's or other, newer models, but from what I've heard they're a step down. Given a choice, I'd suggest going with the original 4's.
