Hi,
I own a few Marantz receivers a 2285 and 1515. The tuning string has become unhooked in the 1515 and I cannot get it right. If I look at the 2285 it is not similar. What I am looking for is an inside picture so that I can repair it. Any possibilities of obtaining one. I have looked and cannot locate.

Hey Michael,
Not sure what the insides of a 1515 looks like but it might be similiar to a 2265B. Check the 2nd post there is a link to a diagram. Pictures would help.

Good luck and welcome to AK.

I have a Marantz 1550 which appears to use the same chassis as your 1515. I'm guessing that the front end is the same.
Attached are some pics. If you need more info, let me know.

The 2265B diagram won't work. I forgot the 1515 has the non gyro type tuner dial.
Willyrover...that is one nice looking 1550 receiver!

Thanks to all it was the spring mechanism that I was unsure about. Your picture on the far right should do it for me. I will work at it today.
Thanks Willy

One last question Willy,
What is the spring attached to. Is it the phillips head screw. Your pictures are great and look enlarged but I just cannot tell. If you could turn it just left I could see the other end.
Thanks again

The other end of the spring wraps around a plastic tab molded into the wheel. (Red dotted line.)
Good luck!

Willy,
Took me an hour or so and cleaned it up. I ended up using the philips screw as I believe the plastic tab has gone. Seems to work fine. I needed all the drawings. to route correctly.
Garage stereo now in order with old amps, tuners, speakers etc all over the place. I have a problem. Thanks Mike

Great! Seems like the purpose of the spring is only to keep a little tension on the tuning cord anyway.

I am trying to get the tuning knob off of my 1530 which is like your 1515.
How do you remove it? Does it have a allen wrench screw or what?rowdyhamilton@earthlink.net

Yes. There should be a small hole in the side of the knob to insert an allen key.
Look at first pic in post #3 and you can see the hole on the tuning knob at about 11 o'clock.

Hey, Willie. I picked up a 1520 the other day for 10 bux. As The Guess Who would say, it had come "Undone." There is nothing intuitive about the spring workings in that large wheel, and I would not have figured it out without your pix. Thanks. Dennis

Synchronicity often being a wonderful thing, I didn't realize I was quoting one of Canada's finest bands while I was getting great info from a Canadian (assuming Hamilton is the Hamilton in Ontario). Between the hockey and the beer, you guys ain't doin half bad.
