View Full Version : Not aging well

The Sheryl Crow thread got me thinking about which artists look good into their 40s and beyond, and which do not.

I always liked her work with Blondie and have several of their albums. OK, I know she's in her 60s, but Debra Harry has just not aged well at all. She was pretty hot back in the day, but have you seen her lately?

P.S. Though AFAIK, she hasn't had any "work" done. As opposed to say, Cher, where I don't think any part of her body has been untouched by plastic surgery.

I saw her last year; she looked hotter in person.

In that song, "Maria", a few years back, I thought, "Who the F#&! is dat old woman singin' in Debbie's place ?!? Omigawd, it IS Debbie !! Yikes !" Cher, y'know, it might be DANGEROUS & life-threatening for her if she ever had occasion to strain good 'n' hard whilst ensconsed on the Throne..the strain might make her explode & fly all to pieces...Hope she has the good sense to eat lotsa Prunes....<grin>

Remember the Linda Ronstadt album cover with her and her long hair years ago? Well, her photo was in a local paper this past weekend, and years of being married to Jerry Brown and eating pizza has not treated her very well.

Yeah, I always wondered if there were as many of them l'il kids around AFTER a photo shoot w/Sally as there were before, when she was shillin' for Save the Children ? Still think Star Jones lost control one day & ate the Chinese gal on "The View"...Wish she'd eaten Joy Behar instead...

Linda Ronstadt never married Gov. Moonbeam (AFAIK) -- just shacked up with him.

Have you seen her lately? Well, at least she's comfortable with herself.

They called her "Linda Cow" in the old late, lamented "National Lampoon" once...NOW Me unnerstand...She still has a great voice, however. Even Debbie Harry could still make her pipes ring purty good, zaftig granma that she is...

IIRC, Ms Ronstadt is ill, and that's the reason for the weight gain.

In her teens, Ronstadt was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland which has contributed to her weight gain over the years. As of late 2005, she lives in the Laurel Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.
and
"According to a news item dated Aug. 25, 2006, Ronstadt "cancelled tour dates for the rest of the year to recover from surgery." "Ronstadt's agent, Shelly Schultz, would not provide details on the surgery...but said it wasn't cancer." The surgery was performed on Tuesday Aug. 22, 2006, in Tucson, Ariz., where Ronstadt owns a home. According to the news item, "Ronstadt will recuperate at her home in Tucson for an 'undetermined' amount of time, Schultz said. Then she'll travel back to her other home in San Francisco."

I'll say.....

Her "Hummin' to Myself" release from 2004 is one of my favorite finds this year :thmbsp:

I'll have to find a copy. I'll keep my eyes closed, however, while I think back a few decades...

I hadn't heard that, but there was a good article about her recently in, IIRC, the SF Chronicle. She is truly at peace with herself, based on the article.

Now, on the other hand, La Linda's pal Emmylou Harris has aged quite gracefully.

Well hey, that is the difference, man. It's just technical, like re-capping those old amps and radios.

Talking about women here, it's more to do with motorcycles and 20-something wimmen for older men...

Actually, I look better (albeit older) than when I was in college. The fact that I weigh about 100 lbs less helps.

I do have LOTS less hair, though.

A few weeks ago, I went to see Commander Cody...I talked to him for about 20 minutes before the show...be bullshatted about all kinds of stuff...he's telling a story which leads him into "and that was the night Linda Ronstadt asked me to marry her....sure glad I didn't good god have you seen her lately?" I was gonna tell that story in this thread anyway....the pictures just make it so much better though :thmbsp: :thmbsp: :D :D

Remember when we didn't care what musicians looked like?

I think most of us always cared what the FEMALE musicians looked like - at least when we got past the age of 13. 'Cept maybe a few, like Mamma Cass.

I mean, a woman would be rated on her musicianship first...sure we still had crushes on the hot ones, but we still listened to the not-so-hot ones. And bought their albums.

Speakin of Mama Cass Elliot I wonder what Michelle Phillips looks like now. She was still hot a few years back as an actress. Last time I saw her was The Mamas And The Papas induction into the Rock And Roll hall of fame. Reminded me of Grace Kelly. Much more refined than in the hippie days.

I can still dig the wild, young, sweet thang of yesteryear though.

Linda made a lasting impression on my li'l kid brain back in the mid-70's. I still distinctly remember a concert shot of her which I'd have to vote "Best use of a Cub Scout Uniform...Ever!" I think it was about 11 sizes too small :D
Speaking of Janis, there was that nekkid pic of her you see every once in a while, not too bad at all.
Then, there was the "Trio" album with Dolly, Emmylou, and Linda in which all three divas were in FINE form-record wasn't bad either.
Debbie Harry did a guest shot in a VHS movie years ago called "Rockin' Mother Goose". My kids loved it. She played the old woman who lived in a shoe. Sample lines:
"Who you callin' old, handsome?"
"I got so many kids, I don't know what to do"
"You kids just wait 'til yer fathers get home" :scratch2:
I liked it a lot better than any Blondie output.
