Mr Slabi 09-02-2006, 11:15 PM You saved money as far as I am concerned.
Don't get me wrong, I like Yammi's (I run an rx-v950 upstairs), but I think you can get a lot better tuner for 200 smackers
jeffe 09-02-2006, 11:20 PM Yamaha's 2nd, maybe 3rd best tuner for $200 is a deal! CT-7000 is too expensive.... but I do have a T-2... and T-1, T-7, T-1020, CT-1010, and TX-1000.... no pattern here!
But, I am curious! What better tuner can you get for $200?
Like I said... that was a deal!

thedelihaus 09-03-2006, 09:22 PM Jeffe, are you a strict Yamaha fan?
Sansui's TU-717 is a great tuner for around $175-$200 ave.
Technics, believe it or don't, makes a great tuner, the 8600, that sells for $100-$200.
One could buy a Kenwood 7500 for around $100, then mod it into a world beater.
I've never heard that Yammie's performance, but I bet it was decent.
Have you seen this page before? all about vintage tuners?

jeffe 09-03-2006, 10:38 PM I have a Sansui TU-717 that I did purchase for 2 bills & TU-719, a Kenwood KT-9900 & L-07T, and a Pioneer TX-9500II besides my Yamaha's. Outgoing tuners are a Magnum Dynalab FT 101 and a Nikko Gamma I.
I've spent quite a few hours on FMtunerinfo site!
yamahammer 09-03-2006, 10:41 PM see he just want one of everything like me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thedelihaus 09-03-2006, 10:43 PM jeffe,
Do you think the performance of the Yammie would have been better?
I own a Kenwood KA-7500, Technics 7600, and Sansui 717. They've been good to me. But I'm unfamiliar with that Yammie.
jeffe 09-03-2006, 11:06 PM The T-85 is about tops when it comes to tuning in hard to get stations with it's 4 tuning settings. A little overkill here in the Dallas area where I have no reception problems using my rooftop antenna. All of my Yamahas are also very nice sounding tuners. Really good bass, full midrange, and nice clear highs. Natural Sound! The T-2, my favorite Yammie, has a 7 gang front end!
BTW! My first analog tuner was a KT-7500. I liked it so much I started reading up on 70's audio and now I have a vintage "p r o b l e m" !! Kenwood built some great gear! and Yamaha, and Sansui..... I like Nikko too!
You should try a Yamaha tuner if you get the chance! A T-1 or T-7 are both very nice. They might compare well with the TU-717 sonically but you can't beat those Sansui's for good looks in my book! I think I got my T-1 for $50 and the T-7 for $25. For a great inexspensive digital try to find a T-1020. I found my on CL for $40.
thedelihaus 09-03-2006, 11:40 PM Thanks, Jeffe!
I'd like to modify the Kenwood at some time, if I'm ever brave and smart enough to do so.
I too, am a fan of Nikko gear, and really like the looks of the black Nikko Gamma 1, the analog version.
I'll read up on the Yammies. Good to know.
I'm about 28-38 miles from my 3 favorite radio stations now, and have a painful time getting them in.
No matter what receiver I use.
