....That's what the ad said. The location was 2 1/2 hours away according to mapquest. It's worth a call at least, I thought to myself.
Good thing he threw in the turntable and reel to reel.

Umm, if you don't want that 8B (or is it an 8), Tom...

Have you left to get it Tom ?

It is an 8B but the preamp is a 7T. The much less desireable transistor version. There are wood cases for the 7T and the 10B.
You would not believe the paperwork that came with it. :thmbsp:
Warranty cards, manuals, original factory spec cards, etc. etc...

Stilll a very sweet score. If I could ask where did you see the ad ?

Oh, only a 7t; should have skipped it. Just kidding of course. You just bought the system at below market pricing when ss killed tube gear prices back in the '70s.

I had an 8b once, traded it for a pair of large Advents back in about 1980. Who knew the appreciation would be so great. Oh well live and learn

I may be PM'ing ye Tom... I have heard the future of my Cornwalls, and it was an 8B!

I re-hab'bed an 8B for a fellow in Worcester, and then had the pleasure of playing with it for a couple of weeks. They are magnificent amplifiers!

Don't you hate when those deals come along  Great deal!

My best score in an ad for equipment was for some old speakers and a large receiver. They stated the receiver was a Technica (no, the person at the paper didn't type in the a instead of the s) as I called and the lady stated it was a large "Technica" receiver. She stated that they just purchased a new BOSE system and needed to get rid of this "ugly junk" sitting in her Living room.

Not knowing what a Technica receiver was, I went by because I was curious. It just happened to be a super Rare, MINT Technics SA-1000 that still had the 330 Watt sticker on the glass  The speakers were a very nice pair of B&W Matrix 2.2's. She told me if I would get this stuff out of her house, she would let me have it for $150.00. I paused, contemplating :scratch2: and then she decided my look of amazement was disinterest, said, "how about $100.00 and I throw in a TT too". I said OK, that would work. The TT happened to be a very nice Thorens TD-125 w/ SME 3009 arm.

I quickly pulled out my wallet and paid the $100.00, ran the equipment out to the truck as fast as I could carry this beautiful, 90 lb. receiver out, speakers and the TT before her husband got home and shot his wife for selling his babies and shooting me for highway robbery!

But your score is certainly one of the better I have seen in some time. The exhilaration you had to experience when you saw that gear has to be similair as when I found my score. You do find them every once in awhile but not normally with well-known, multi-collectible, and highly desireable equipment all in one place

Congratulations and a toast to your great find! :beerchug:

You guy's are making me feel bad I talked him down to $800.00.

No one has asked about the turntable or the reel to reel. :scratch2:

Don't tell me, let me guess -- the TT's a Marantz SLT? ;-)

Umm... the R2R... probably a Crown, or Ampex... maybe ReVox?

No kidding, absolutely true!

I actually had one even better value wise with some McIntosh tube equipment, but the story was not as fun. I saw a guy on ebay who listed some equipment for a friend. His pictures were terrible and made the equipment look reeally bad. he had two MC-60's, two MC-30's, two C-8's, an original D-8 power supply, and a variety of other tube tuners, and some other pieces that I can't recall right off hand.

I asked how much he would accept for all with Buy It Now. Each item was listed separately. He repled that he could not guarantee anything but if I was willing to take it all in one shot, he would take $1,250.00 shipped for all of it.

When all of the boxes arrived, I was somewhat sure of what I would find as I was surely anticiapting a bunch of boat anchors. To my surprise, other than some heavy dust that had accumulated over the years, most of it was near mint! A little bonus was all of the Genalex KT-66 tubes, Telefunken 12AX7's and a variety of other bonus items, I was certainly pleased to say the least.

I was hoping for a Garrard 301 and an Ampex or Revox but all I got was a Perpetuum-Ebner and a Magnecord.

The speakers were destroyed by his kids. They were AR3a's.

In January I answered an ad for an old Jensen speaker. We agreed on $200 and I took it home. After deciding I would never be able to find a mate for it I put it up on ebay. Including the $1,300.00 it cost to ship to S. Korea, the buyer sent me $11,300.00. :thmbsp:

That's it. Dammit, I'm moving to New Hampshire.

Congrats, though, really. I had a similar experience once: I found a single Tannoy 15" Dual Concentric Red in a beat all to hell cabinet for $10 at GW. Tossed what was left of the cabinet, and sold the driver and associated crossover for $1325. The downside? (other than not keeping a DC Red, of course :tears: ) That $1325 worth of gear I then went out and bought takes up a hell of a lot more space in my house than the Tannoy, much to the chagrin of my wife... :D

I purchased my Altec Valencias at the local Salvation Army store for US $190.
I saw them there, not knowing at all just what they were, and thought' I wonder what those are like?'
Went back a week later after getting paid and they were still there.I knew that there had been an ad in Stereophool every month for a very long time which was 'wanted to buy Altec...etc' and I thought if someone wants this stuff that bad it must have some appeal. So I bought them thinking 'Hell if I don't like them,I could probably get my money back on the re-sell'
I've still got 'em.
It turns out that there was a lot of interest in them, but people were trying to get the guy at Sally Ann's to drop the price(for sure so they could make a bigger profit on the when they re-sold them).
Anyway, their greed was what gave me my opportunity.
Thank you,you Greedy Bastards. :thmbsp: :D

The big gray deco refrigerator Imperial, yes?

You're on a pocket streak that is for sure.

Nicely done!
