I looked at those 3 in 40" LCD HD sets. I would have bought the Sharp if it had a VGA input. I went with the Sony XBR-1 and have been loving it. I think the Sharp had just a yad better picture. Reliability is still up for review since I have only had the set for about 6 months. I did not care for the look of the Samsung with the V shape in the front and the big blue button right in the middle.

Thanks for your post. I too thought the images on the Sharp were "sharper" than the Sony however, many sales people thought differently. I liked the piano black gloss finish on the Sharp but, was concerned that it may scratch easily and it may not be able to be repaired. Any ideas concerning this? Thanks again!

I have the Sharp 45" with the piano black finish and I do not expect it to scratch easily. Mine was a floor model and there are no scratches on it. While in general I like Sharp's the best I think both the Samsung 46" and Sony 40" XBR have better contrast ratios. I'm talking about only 1080P sets here.

The TVGuide function is pretty much useless with just OTA HD. You need OTA SD to get it to work properly which I don't have. I called Sharp customer service for help and while they were easy to get ahold of they are not experts on that system and could not get it to work properly. Too bad as I've seen it work on other sets and it's nice to have.

I bought my parents a 13" Sharp Aquos EDTV monitor and they have been very happy with it for the past few years. We have a 30" tube Samsung HDTV monitor and our only complain has been the lack of variable preouts.

i am under the impresion that the sony is made by samsung, so they should have about the same picture quality, which i think is not as good as the sharp
