Hi there,
I know this is proabbly a silly question but I can't find it anywhere online. Can I connect the left/right outputs on my vcr (hooked up to TV, obviously) directly to the auxiliary or tape inputs on a regular home stereo reciever, or is the VCR output too high level? Why would I need an AV reciever for this, whats the difference between an AV reciever and a regular reciever? Thank you!!!

(1) Yes, you can hook it up direcly to your aux or tape inputs.
(2) An AV receiver is usually multichannel; a "regular" (or vintage) receiver is usually two-channel (aka "stereo").

Most A/V receivers will also provide inputs for both the audio and video portion of whatever source you use whereas an older, standard 2 channel receiver has has inputs for audio only. And like mentioned above, they also provide for multiple speaker outputs for surround sound. Some people could care less about surround sound,so they use a standard 2 channel receiver for the audio portion. If your TV has audio and video input(s),it will most assuredly have an audio output. You could run your VCR audio/video to your tv and then the audio out from the TV to the AUX input on the receiver. That way, everything audio from your TV is coming out of your receiver.Just a thought...
