I found a very nice pair of HBR Heresy's at the G.W. Pics are in Dollars and Sense section under "Another Goodwill Find". The serial #'s are 114W788 and 114W789. Any idea as to the year they were made from the serial numbers? Thanks, Brad

After listening to these 1981 Heresy's for a couple of weeks, I've come to the conclusion that they need to stay. I really like them. I've been powering them with a Sansui AU-717. The bass is outstanding as are the highs. It's hard to believe that such good sound reproduction comes from such small units. I guess it all depends on what sounds good to the listener.  Brad

Brad...what you just described is why Paul Klipsch called them "Heresy"

I picked some up recently at a thrift store. I've tried them with a big tube amp (too loud, can't turn the amp up past 7:00), and with a big SS receiver (not good at all.) I don't have a little tube amp, which I gather is optimum, but they sound best to me with the little $30 T-amp. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

I've got some 82s that are great on a 10 watt tube amp  I think I read somewhere that Mr. Klipsch's favorite tube was the 2A3 which makes about 3.5 watts. :scratch2:

I don't know that Mr. Klipsch had any tube favorites. I have been told that he dropped tubes as soon as good solid state amplification was available in the early 70s and never looked back.

I may have gotten carried away with my interpetation. What I was remembering was an article by Joe Roberts in the #15 issue of Sound Practices where he stated that "K-Horn fans are particularly nirvana-stricken with 2A3s, fitting since Paul Klipsch used Brook 2A3s back in the olden days".
