Helped a bud clean-up and check offset on a Marantz 2245 that he recently scored at a garage sale. He brought it over and after verifying she was safe to do some serious listening, connected it to my basement system. I must say, I was impressed with the punch it had for 45wpc, but that "warm" Marantz sound that I had heard back in the 70' was immediately evident. I can relate to people really liking that warm, comfy sound but it sounded like the bass was overboosted and it didn't sound natural to my ears. I was very impressed with the sound of the FM tuner and how good it sounded, even with a less than ideal signal.

The most important thing is my buddy saved a classic piece from the dumpster. It cleaned-up really well and had a very stable output. He only paid $10 for it, and he loves the way it sounds. I told him he needs to start drinking martini's now. :D

WOW!
Sweet score.
What speakers were you using on it?

THe speakers make a huge difference.
When I use my advents on my 2265B, the bass is a bit heavey, I just drop the bass knob down 2 notches and it is good.
My L100s sound perfect on it.

Try turning the bass knob down, it works, I promise.

Great score. I just put my Marantz 2238 back into my "civilized" system that I use for dinner parties and everyday (non-cranking) listening. I run it with some B&W DM 601s (series 2) and it is a perfect match. I find that the Marantz excels on the mid-ranges. I had forgotten just how beautiful it is to look at as well as to listen to. Blue lights and symetric circles.

Interesting comment, given that I just posted a thread asking for quad receiver opinions. :beerchug:

I have paperwork around here somewhere for a 2245 that measured 52WPC before clipping. Please note that there is an error in the service manual regarding where you attach the meter when setting the bias. I don't have the manuals up here with me, but could check them if needed.

Rob, we didn't mess with the bias but yes I would certainly like to be enlightened regarding any updates to the manual. Thanks for the response. :thmbsp:
