I bought this in 1971, when I bought my Sansui SP 1500's.

It is lovely to look at especialy with it's dust cover on, but it hisses after 5 minutes of play. I always thought the heads were shot (they look that way).

What do you guys think?

Have you demagnetized the heads recently?

Hi Bob

I see you are using my pictures from a restored Teac I sold.:D :D
These can be creating a hiss on playback (usally left channel) if you hear a crackle sound after a short time, demagnetize the heads. But a loud hiss is another story...
Can be several things wrong : playback head , transistors on the output IC, dirty play/recording switch.
If the Teac is nice otherwise and you can buy a spare deck from Ebay for parts it is worth fixing I think.

I have one of these units that I don't really expect to use. After we get moved, if you need parts let me know. It has been sitting for the last year taking up space. I could send you just the parts you need to save shipping. I will check it out when we get settled, though I am the worlds worst procrastinator, so it may take a few weeks.
