Just setup a time to go look @, and hopefully buy, a 2270.
She says all lights work and it powers on without smoke. So its worth the 2 hr. trip to go see. Plus she is only asking $40.00 bucks.
Hell, I'd pay $0.50 to watch a monkey screw a football. So 2hrs. of my time and 10 bucks worth of gas is worth looking @ a nice piece.

You have to pay to watch a monkey screw a football, geez, things are more expensive in the North. I get to watch that everyday at work, and they pay me.

I think I paid $2 at the Marshfield fair to see that.
But, saw some bikers doing it, free of charge, at the Brockton fair.

Zebrablvd.
GO GET IT NOW!
I had to pay $150 for mine at the auction site.
And it arrived beat up and damaged, too six hours to get her right.
GO GET IT NOW!
And if by chance you decide not to make the drive, I'd be happy to do it. I'd even let you come over and listen....
Seriously, when it's in, you might get ahold of me, since we work fairly close to each other apparently, I'll be going through my second Marantz shortly, may have extra lamps, and will have new vellum dial backing.

Wish I could alexkerhead, but I have commitments on Wednesday nights. But I told her I'd pay an extra 10 bucks for her to hold it. Plus she said that she would and not sale it to no one else. Hope she keeps her word.

As to the first part of your post Wank I'll just say, "I don't think so :D ". But I will probably take you up on the lamp/vellum offer if you have any @ the time I need it/them. I'm sure it has some lights out. And as I understand from a few reads here that the vellum will almost turn the lights to a greenish color as it ages.
I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and wait till about 5 o'clock tomorrow.
P.S. This post will also break the 666 count I had on posts. I'm not superstitious by any means, but it was brought to my attention. Don't want to bring any undue bad luck or Karma before I even get started on this quest.

We've chated before, I had the cat that swatted my SME arm on my Thorens, you offered help and karma, thank you!! I hope that karma is coming back at you :thmbsp: I have 2 Marantz 2270's, both anchor my 2 main systems, my roomie even has them dasiy chained together and withe the computer, so if I have to work in the computer/music room, I can hear the race on the ML's in there, the other Marantz driving the TV HT whatever. Lot's of fun, the sound of these baby's is jaw dropping!! Had to pre-out the one in the music room to my SAE amp though, the ML's need more current, that same magical Marantz sound with more power! Hell I don't know why these babys aren't being snapped up right and left just for the pre-amp with one of the best tuners on the planet thrown in as a bonus, then add the amp of your choice, depending on your mood if you have a couple around!
I paid $175.00 with s/h on one. And $250.00 for the other, which had one beautifull perfect condtion wood case, to me the case makes it a Marantz!! they are getting big bucks on their own $100.00+
Does any AKer have the woodworking skills to replecate this case it can't be that difficult, the nice beveled front will take some I'm sure?
And being Thorens guy's ourselves, are you familiar with all the wonderfull, beautifull, plinths some folks are making for them? The cases don't have to look like the original ones, soild mahogany, piano black laquer, Zebrawood!!! :scratch2:
Even after your long drive and all the lights are out for Godsakes, many here can help you with that, for $50.00 bucks you will be as happy as I was, and that my buddy is pretty F'n happy! :music:
Good on ya! Let us know!
Peace Craig

I picked up the 2270 last night.
The bad new is, it did not work. By it did not work I mean I plugged it in @ the sellers place, hooked up a pair of KLH satellite spkrs. I brought with me and no sound from FM. Didn't have another source to try there, but I have the old test CD and Cassette player @ home I will use to check the other inputs.
The lighting was very poor in the room and the Marantz only had one light remaing that was working. And that was on the extreme right away from the signal meter. So I couldn't even tell if I ran across a weak station.
When I switched the spkrs. from remote to mains I got an extremely loud hum from the unit. Which was not controllable with the volume selector.
Long story short, I offered them $10.00 and they accepted. I figured I could take a closer look when I got home. After I tear it down and go through the normal cleaning process. But that will even have to wait until Monday or so. I'm going up to Milwaukee tonight to meet my step-son and go to a blues festival this weekend.
I figure from what I have read here about this Marantz model it's probably worth throwing a few bucks @ it to see if it will come back to life. We'll see!
Nice work. With as little as you have in it, I feel confident that even taken to someone else for repair, you'll be ahead of the game. If the hum came from both channels, I'll bet a dollar you'll find a leaky filter cap or two to replace. Had that issue with a Yamaha recently that new filter caps fixed right up.
I'll make sure to set aside some vellum for you. I've changed out one, and it really does make a huge difference. Good luck.
I don't suppose there are beverages at a blues fest in Milwaukee, are there?

Thank you for saving a lovely Marantz 2270, you will love it :music: :thmbsp: I've been switching amps in and out for my power requirements, don't get me started on Pre's, I am a Marartz Pre-amp guy for now!! I'm so taken by this Marantz that I signed up for the cable loan to see how I can flesh out even more out of it, I have never used expensive, in my eyes, cables. Thanks guys for pullin' me into this!! I know, I know, stop blameing other people for your sick habits is what my therapist says, oh wait, he works the local thrifts!! :D

Peace CraigHi Stu, I've been giving some thought to making a few wood cases, for my own use, and maybe, to fund my compulsive stereo buying habits. I have a shop full of tools and know how to use most of them  . I'm picking up a 2270 this weekend and if it doesn't have a case, that may get me motivated. I was looking at an older Scott (or maybe it was a Fisher) that had a really nice solid wood case with caning on the top for ventilation. The caning really looked classy. If I can't find a good supply for expanded metal screen the caning looked like a good alternative. Whatcha" think?

Four peices of 3/4" plywood with dark stain seems like a good place to start.
Measure, and most wood places will pre-cut for free, the sizes you need.
I will be doing this for all ym Marantz stuff sometime.
Then nail together and veneer it.
Takes time to veneer, but this is a very easy way.

Very good on ya w/the 2270 you will love it  If anything is not soundin' right, ask for help, The caning sounds (sorry!) way cool :thmbsp: If you do something more substantial in a unique finish, maybe a dark cherry? You could re-case, (more money) or re veineer, (more or less) Love Big Mac's, Marantz's, call me crazy, call me a fool! :D Solid wood is desired?
westend, sad story, my roomee's cat 17teen bloody years old, love'm like a child, sept 'es a bitch! used my 'Pa's stereo caning for a sratch post!!!! I still love'm :tears: big time!! The music still sounds great and , the cat still melts my heart!
