He looks to me like he should be (although a bit "nerdish" at times). Here is his video:

View Full Version : Is "Vintage DJ" an AK-er? Arkay 09-22-2006, 09:50 AM He looks to me like he should be (although a bit "nerdish" at times). Here is his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq38wgnth7g spartanmanor 09-22-2006, 09:58 AM This guy is for real and he will spin for you Vintage DJ (http://www.vintagedj.com/what.html) Pretty cool :thmbsp: Brian 09-22-2006, 10:35 AM That's funny. The 1st shot of the tonearm looks like it is an old timer. Like the record collection also. glen65 09-22-2006, 10:39 AM Pretty cool stuff, he does a broadcast also http://www.eastvillageradio.com/modules.php?name=evrshow&ordinal=47&date=09.20.06 shrinkboy 09-22-2006, 10:42 AM that was very cool, i loved it archie2 09-22-2006, 12:49 PM That's Mr. Rogers' brother for the audiophile set. Eunomians 09-22-2006, 01:05 PM Interesting stuff. Gotta give it to him, the first 2 cuts on his radio show are serious ass kickers. Especially the Wilson Pickett tune! shocley 09-22-2006, 03:14 PM I dunno about using the kind of vintage turntables he has in the video. That tonearm reminds me of one AKer's avatar, a piece of wood with a screw through it as a tonearm/stylus. His records won't have modulations in the grooves if he plays them too many times. Maybe he could use a nice Thorens TT, that'd be vintage enough. Otherwise, it's cool. I loved hearing a phone ring again...a rotary dial type, of course. rulerboyz 10-21-2006, 11:04 PM By the way, since you guys first brought the Vintage DJ to my attention I visited his website and found out that he does a radio show each week that is also a podcast. He has the setlists for each show on his website. He plays some really great music, all on vinyl. I've added it to my podcast schedule on itunes. I also burn copies to disc so I can listen to it in my car. The vintage DJ calls it "Time Travelling". Here's the link to the podcast: http://www.eastvillageradio.com/modules.php?name=evrshow&ordinal=47 Eunomians 10-21-2006, 11:25 PM Yeah, the radio show is pretty darn good actually. Some great tunes. The only damn annoyance is that TT rumble. But whatever, I can live with it. I sorta get used to it with my 100s of DJ mixes. Damn Technics 1200 rumble... doucanoe 10-22-2006, 07:35 AM Dang, I own half of those albums. RC dewdude 10-22-2006, 07:54 AM i'm pretty sure he's completely ruined any stereo albums he's got. like, it's one thing to have a gimmick...but..that's just one that makes no sense and makes me squirm more than watching someone get open-heart surgery..just thinking about that poor high quality vinyl being eaten away by CLASSROOM record players...you know..the ones that...how can you even get a decent sound out of those, they've gotta have no top or low end. sheesh...and i thought I was mad. the-real-mandak 10-22-2006, 09:16 AM I think I spotted the TT's to be Audiotronics 300, but the arm looks a bit newer than the A model. Here there is a link an auction with pic of the 300A: http://cgi.ebay.com/AUDIOTRONICS-PORTABLE-RECORD-PLAYER-16-33-45-78_W0QQitemZ120044413855QQihZ002QQcategoryZ1442QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ZebraBlvd 10-22-2006, 09:53 AM Dang, I own half of those albums. RC Not half, but quite a few for me. :smoke: rulerboyz 10-22-2006, 10:30 AM Perhaps AK could sponsor him so he could set up some higher end equipment that would bring the rumble down. Eunomians 10-22-2006, 12:08 PM Perhaps AK could sponsor him so he could set up some higher end equipment that would bring the rumble down. Yeah, like I said, the damn rumble. But I suspect on his radio show the studio's got 1200s, Stantons, Numarks or Vestax rumble machines. I am sure he ain't using those cool-looking POS vintage TTs on air. Hey, this seems like a good time to diss 99% of all DD TT's :naughty: Oh well, what can you do. At least the 1200 can be modified to reduce rumble to almost nothing. If DJs only cared... Mchaz 10-23-2006, 07:46 PM Anyone know the artists of these tracks? I really dig the sound. The 2nd one has a bit of an exotica feel to it. http://www.vintagedj.com/sounds/track01.mp3 http://www.vintagedj.com/sounds/track07.mp3 rulerboyz 11-19-2006, 03:57 PM Here are some very small images of the albums which those audio samples come from: Track 1 http://www.vintagedj.com/images/top.gif Track 7 http://www.vintagedj.com/images/m_1a.gif Maybe somebody recognizes which albums they are, because they are not legible at that resolution. Brian 11-19-2006, 04:11 PM Top 1 looks like a Command 35 cover or possibly Enock Light. Can not remember which but it looks familiar as does as the bottom 1. I think I may have both but they are in storage and can not get back into them. rulerboyz 11-19-2006, 04:21 PM Bingo, good call on the Enoch Light (Persuasive Percussion is the title of that record). Here it is on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B0000014X6 Mchaz 11-19-2006, 05:55 PM Hey thanks. Never expected this thread to get revived. rulerboyz 11-19-2006, 08:20 PM I sometimes revisit threads when I am curious to see what was posted after my last comment. I was listening to the Vintage DJ podcast and am noticing that the entire show is in stereo even though about half the tracks are mono. I need to keep flicking the mono switch on and off. Arkay 11-19-2006, 08:28 PM Hey thanks. Never expected this thread to get revived. Neither did I (and I started it!). Coincidentallly, I have that "Persuasive Percussion" LP, too. I've seen it with two different covers, both with similar patterns of "dots", or else there are two very similar albums with the same title. Haven't heard the other version, to make sure. :headscrat Still think that vintage DJ "should be" an AKer.... rulerboyz 11-19-2006, 08:52 PM Here's a blown up view of that other album cover. I thought that the second word looked a bit like Hamilton. I thought Chico Hamilton Quintet? But the other words don't fit. Brian 11-20-2006, 07:53 AM I think it is time for me to go to the old timers' home. I can not remember what I had for breakfast yesterday but can remember a record cover I have not seen in the past 5 - 6 years. I scaring myself. Eunomians 11-20-2006, 12:19 PM I think it is time for me to go to the old timers' home. I can not remember what I had for breakfast yesterday but can remember a record cover I have not seen in the past 5 - 6 years. I scaring myself. You are not alone, and I'm just a few past the triple decade of breathing in & out. I can remember books/magazines that I've glanced at 30 years ago, but I have a hard time remembering what you just said. Huh? What was that?:sigh: |
