Hello,

I am considering picking one of these used. It is in excellent condition. The one catch is I have no idea about the overall quality of this unit. Was it considered good in it's day, etc etc.

Can anyone offer up some helpful information?

Thanks

I had a VR-5000. Decent build quality, sound was not particularly memorable. They aren't worth much these days. There are much better vintage choices.

What would be some examples of better vintage choices?

BTW, welcome. It depends on your budget. I would say take your time and look over the threads and posts here and follow the opinions of the members. I did that when I got started. You might want to go over to Vintage Solid State and pose the "New to Vintage, What Should I Get" question. Enjoy!!

I have been listening to Pioneer receivers ever since I was born and never complained.

Are you in Boston? For the price it's being offered at, it may be worth a shot. Worse case scenario, bring it to work or into the garage, or give it away for christmas.
