Last night after listneing to several CD's, I couldn't decide what else to listen to, so I thought that I'd switch on the FM. So I roated the selector knob on my Marantz 2285 to the 'FM position', and nothing happened. The signal strength meter stayed on '0', the pointer lit up, and no sound came out.

I tried working the selector switch back & forth several times, and moved the tuner wheel up and down the dial. Even powered it off, and back on again. I pushed all the push button switched in & out. Nothing has worked.

The FM was working just fine only two days ago, I assume the AM was too, but don't use it very much. The 'aux' which I play CD's through is still working fine. . . . . Does anyone have an idea what is wrong, and hoe to fix it?

It's probably not the tuner, but the power supply feeding it. You'll need a volt meter and a service manual...

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure I'd know what to do even if I had those items?

Sounds like you need to take it to a professional tech. The 2285 is a great receiver - definitely worth sinking a few bucks into, if necessary. There may even be a few techs on this forum willing to take a look at it for you, but I can't speak for them. Echowars is top notch, but I have the feeling he's backed up to the rafters with work, and Fred Longworth knows his stuff as well...

Good luck :thmbsp:

Thanks for the tips, I definately want to get it fixed, and don't mind spending some money on it.

Where are you located? Perhaps I can help. Been repairing Marantz for the past 20 years.
Don't touch the inside without a working knowledge of the receiver.

Ron -

I'm located in Los Angeles. It looks like you are in New York? I would like to fix locally, because I don't trust shipping. I'm afraid something bad would happen, in addition to the extra costs involved with shipping.
