Would it be better to run my TT into a phono stage with 50k ohms resistance or 100k ohms resistance?

It all depends on your cartridge specifications. Most MM (moving magnet) carts were designed for a 47K ohm load so the 50K ohm would most likely be what you would want to use.

Better check your phono stage again.

AFAIK no phono stages have that high a loading.

Most go to 47k , which is unloaded.

What cartridge/phono stage combination are you using ???

Generally as you increase the load you tighten up the sound until you reach the extremes when it all sounds sterile and lifeless.

As you head the otherway towards 47k, there are improvements in transparency, dynamics, soundstaging until you reach a loose bloom.

Of course YMMV depending on your specific combination.

Here is the section in the manual of my reciever. I use a marantz 6110 turntable and have no idea which cart. it uses (might be the orginal). The receiver was is a sansui 4000 and was made in 1970.

Why not just try them both? Can't do any harm. But if you do, be safer to turn the amp off when switching inputs. I learned the hard way...:)

Noise specs will always be better when you match impedence...that is where you get the maximum power transfer from cartridge to preamp.

However, you can certainly experiment. Won't hurt a thing.

As others have said most likely your running a moving magnet cartridge that is the standard 47K. Running it through the 50K would be the most logical. 100k is pretty standard for Moving coils but you can try it out for shits and giggles.
