I just finished putting together my dream Marantz setup. The set has the same family look as the 2500 and of course, the scope is mesmerizing. Interestingly, the 3650 has a scope out and the 2130 has a scope in enabling the 2130 to display external sound tracings. And, the 3650 has a second pre-out so a second amp might be in the cards.

Collecting took a couple of months of searching and luck. The 300DC was mint, damaged in transit and repaired. The 2130 needs a stereo lamp and some dial lamps but is otherwise fine. It goes into stereo in FM and that is a relief. The 3650 was advertised as non-operational. I replaced the power cord (now polarized) and a couple of fuses and it works great. The 3650 is missing a couple of button caps but what the hey, for what I paid, I feel like a thief. Anyone have extra 3650 button caps?

The set has a lovely sound. I haven't listened enough to discover all they have to offer but I've got to say, the separates may have the measure of my 2500. I'll have to A/B to be sure.

Ah - 'tis a lovely sight! If that setup sounds half as good as it looks, you must be ecstatic indeed. Congrats on realizing your dream! :thmbsp:

Sam, I don't think there is any comparison. Seperates are hard to beat.
I have a 510M and 3600 which sure is an outstanding combo. I would say that it's my best Marantz system!

Looking good, Sam! Much as I love a big receiver, I do typically run my separates.

That's a beautiful combo Sam. What speakers are you running? Always loved the gyro tuning wheel.

Very nice combo,
I also have a 300DC and a 2130, and still looking for a 3650, not very easy to find one here in Europe.

The 300DC is my favourite amp, I've had a 250, 170DC (2x), still have a SM8, SM7 and a SM6 (need to be fixed).

Among all of those one, the 300 is the winner, maybe a 500 or a 510 is a better sounding unit, never heard them.

I run my 300Dc through a Marantz Esotec SC7.

The set is currently running my bench speakers. I want to play a few days to make sure everything is ok electronically. Eventually they will play HPM-100's or a large pair of ADS that I am still looking for.

Hi Tony: The 3650 is not easy to find here, especially at the price I paid. This will make finding the missing buttons that much harder. I'm thinking about visiting a machine shop and getting a couple spares from my 2500 cut down. The SM series are very rare here. I haven't heard any of the others on your list but it is good to know I've got the right one. Sam.

Hi Sam,

Great set there!

I never could find a 300DC or a 3650 over here in the Netherlands

Only the later SM-7 and that's a beefed up 300DC.

My current set-up; Esotec SC-6/SM-6/2130/SD-9020.

I have 2 wrecks over here wich provide me alot of spares. (1152DC and 1122DC)

All done! I just put the finishing touches on the set this evening and they are beauties. Of course, I cleaned all pots and switches. I then re-lamped the tuner including replacing the stereo bulb. The tuner can receive stereo and that is a relief. Also took apart the dial for a dusting. While I was inside, I replaced the (empty) Dolby socket. The 3650 missing knobs took a little figuring. I took a couple of spare 2500 knobs and ground them down to match the height of the originals. Next, I drilled the insert to match the shanks and presto, they fit. Earlier, I replaced the power cord and two fuses. The amp has already been to my tech for a tune-up.

I must say, it's taken a fair amount of elbow grease to get the set right. It's worth it, the looks are fabulous and the sound is superb!!

Hi Sam
For the stereo lamp, what is the voltage of the new lamp?

I knew someone would ask. I had a spare from a parts machine and in it went. My guess is 8v like the fuse bulbs.

Sam,

If your parts are coming from the blue face receivers, the stereo lamps are 2 bipin lamps with a voltage of 6.3v.

In the later Marantz receivers (2226b, 2385,2500...) or tuner (2100,2110,2120,2130) the stereo lamp is a single bipin lamp 12v 40ma.

Just be sure to use the right one

Tony

I scavenged a DLB-1 lamp from a parts 2500. Good to know the correct spec. THANKS.
