I have a few speaker systems here.
The newest are the biggest, the JBL CF-150, but I got 'em NIB, discontinued model off'n eBay. I thought the stereo shop (the seller) was selling a pair. The wording, header & description was all in the plural tense. So, I was about the only bidder, and the upshot was I got the pair of those big boy's delivered to my place for $250 (or less, been a while ago). I knew they would do what I wanted 'em for, but they surprised me by being much better with a variety of music than I had expected.
My 'best' sounding systems are both made with Pioneer drivers. The HPM-900 and the Phase Linear PL-530 provide scintillating sound from the very lows to the very highs. Vocals, men and women, are excellent. Attack and decay are spot on. The drivers themselves are works of art.
I've been running a pair of Advent Loudspeakers and a pair of Infinity Qb together in a 'double' set, kinda like a D'Appolito design, and have just really been enjoying that system!
I have a pair of Marantz Model 900 that I've substituted a pair of Pyle or Pyramid woofers into (the originals need new surrounds, and aren't as good as the ones in 'em now) and they are a favorite for hard-driving, percussive music. Man, those woofers have some long travel! The Marantz, a 10-inch, 3-way system, are physically as large as the PL-530 (big).
The biggest surprise I've encountered are the pair of American Acoustics D-5550. These are a 12-inch, 4 speaker system (dunno if they're 3- or 4-way?). They are playing right this instant, powered by the Concept 16.5 (165x2, and certainly much more than that!).
There's a bunch more, seems like it, 'cause they're all over the place and get in the way of other things.
Anyway, what some of y'all might be considering to spend on new speakers, you could get much more bang for the buck looking at ebay, not only for 'vintage' speakers, but 'used' speakers in general.

Well I have a few pairs myself. Down in the basement I have 4 pairs of speakers, I have twos pairs of EPI's, A10's and A11's the A11's need all the drivers refoamed. The A10's sound great especially for a 2 way speaker. I also have a pair of Pioneer Quartet 70's they are similar in size to HPM100's, 12" 3 way, the woofers need a refoam in them too so I don't know how they sound, seem like solid cabinets and components tho. I also have an old pair of GE speakers that came offa a rack system from the 80's 10" 3 ways, sound great. The GE's and the A10's are currently my weight room system and are being driven by a neat little vintage Nikko reciever I think it is 25wpc.

Upstairs in the GF's daughter room I have a pair of Van speakers being driven by a vintage Technics SA-203 reciever, the speakers aren't the greatest but they play nice an loud for the kid.

Living room. I have a pair of Altec Lansing Model 15's, 12" woofers & big ass horns, one is running on a rat shack woofer right now and when I get the money both woofers will go to great plains or whits plains, the altec lansing guys to be all redone, even with the rat shack woofer they sound scintillating. Being driven by a vintage Technics SA-500 55wpc reciever.

Then there are the big boys, the mysterious Cerwin Vegas made circa 1991 in Denmark. Only other known ones in existence are sitting in the lobby at Cerwin Vega. Belonging to the 1215MKII family. Each cabinet contains a 15" woofer a 12" woofer, two 5" mids and a tweet. 52" tall weighing 100+ lbs a piece, recommended continous wattage 500, max wattage 1500, they are just monsters. And they sound monstrously marvelous. They are bi-amped (till I get me some ampage) with a Sansui G-7700 120wpc driving the 15"s and a Sansui AU-G77X 110 wpc driving the rest. For anyone new who hasn't seen them yet and might have some info for me here they are:

Wow thoots...that's some lineup of JBLs. I sure do like JBL speakers. Even more so the 60's models. Very nice picture!

Thor,

Those rare Cerwin Vegas look like good speakers allright. I like the anti-diffraction shaping of the front corners, and the way the bigger woofer bottom loads. Those are 'keepers!".

thoots,

Great lineup of vintage JBL's! I especially like the white woofers.
Not much doubt about the substantial voice coil size.

Hey Thoots,

Nice pic. The first speaker on the left, is that the 4312? I have nice memories of those. Back in high school, my favourite record store - run by two hot chicks - used them. Did I spend a lot of time there! Purely for the LPs of course;)

Cool, might have been the 4312A in the shop. Had blue cloth grills?
