I'm working with a 2226b and need to know what kind of lamp the stereo indicator uses. When I tried removing the burned out bulb it broke into dust. :sigh:

I wonder if the lamp man dgwojo would know... :scratch2:

Any help is appreciated.

I'm sure dgwojo has them but if not I've ordered Marantz bulbs from here. (http://www.vintage-electronics.cc/vlampkits.html)

Thanks for that link. I may give them a try if I can't get them from Dave.

I just replaced the stereo lamp in my 2130. What a pain.

Doesn't anyone own any god tweasers?
If not, heat a needle up really good and push it out from the top or back.
It is bi-pin, so you don't have to worry about threads.

I offer 3 different types of stereo indicators, the 2230 & 2270 for example uses a pair of 6.3v/40ma bi-pins in series for 12.6v, some use a single 12v/40ma blue base bi-pin, while still others use an 8v/60ma lamp with red and white wires, I'd assume that's the one for the 2226B, Dave.

Some folks say this is the result of 250 mA lamps. I'm not so sure, but why take a chance when the exact parts are available.

Hard to believe THEY would substitute those without telling you, I still prefer the original 200ma, Dave.

Just replaced my lamps with LEDs, and mine was heading in that direction! :yikes:

I have seen the same results with factory original 200ma lamps. I feel that the formulation of the plastic housing had more to do with the heat distortion than the lamps. I have observed pristine housings with factory installed 300ma lamps--who knows??

DgWojo's lamps aren't manufacturere's original quality, they are MUCH better! I can tell you from the ones I bought, which worked perfectly. There are also LEDS available from whsh93a , another AK member. You will get the right ones and you can't go wrong with either of these. Why make things harder than they are, right?

Did you change the vellum in the meters too?? Maybe put the 250ma in the meters and the "CORRECT" 200ma's in the dial.

I haven't found the Vellum easy to replace in the meters. Clips on the plastic housing seem to break just by looking at them.

Hello, and thanks for the input I dont want to do that with the Vellum because meter housing will have to be replaced because they are brittle and really don't want to open a can of worms for a dim light I think I can live with it thanks guys

I have found that most of the OEM meter lamps in the 2226B are 8volt 300 ma lamps with a blue coating.

i'm glad this thread got started. i recently picked up a 2226B and almost all of the bulbs are blown out. So that got me thinking, i know that i would not attempt this myself and it seems some people have had luck with LED's... so why not just do that? are there any big negatives to using LED's that i'm not aware of?

Actually replacing the lamps in the 2226b is not too hard. No Vellum behind the dial plate. Just go in from the front, very carefully removing the dial plate. As far as the meters, you don't have to take the whole housing off, just the small piece holding the lamps behind the housing. If you are careful, only one clip might break but it can still fit back in just fine. I'm far from a pro. If I can do it, anyone can.

My 2226b, is one of my favorite units. Always sounds better with all the lamps working.

LoL ..not laughing at anyone just myself and yes i lost one clip on each meter when doing mine but hey its my 2226B anyway so you think the 300's would be better on the meters? i have 250's in all of her now but like i said the am/fm is kinda dim if thats the Answer i'll put 300's in and yes i do remember they had the blue coating on them too...............LOVE MY 2226B GREAT RECEIVER HEY ITS A MARANTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
