Hello HT folks:
OK, so my dump diving wasn't as prosperous as "John in MA's" was this week! I did spy a black box with a bunch of gold RCA inputs on it in the scrap metal pile. Intrigued, I fished it out to find it was a very handsome Marantz DVD player, model DV7000.
Given its location, it's no surprise to find it's not working. It's "issue" is an interesting one (bear in mind that I know virtually nothing about DVD players). When turned on, it flashes "Welcome" for a while, then the display says "Welcome" solid on for a few seconds, then the display goes blank and the 'standby' light comes on.
I cannot get it to do anything. I popped the hood yesterday and couldn't get the disc tray to cycle (or even open) with manual assistance.
Is this, perhaps, an 'anti-theft' device (there's no remote with it), or is it deeply and profoundly kaput, or...?
I wouldn't even bother, but it's a nice, sturdy deck with an aluminum faceplate. Curious if anyone had any suggestions. If not, no big deal -- the dump still has a generous return policy :-)
Thanks for your attention.
