No listing in Orion for the PM-8.
It is a handsome piece.

Sweet! The amp looks like my 300DC and the pre looks just like my 3650. All in the family, as they say.

SB Marantz, you're a lucky guy. Two years ago, I almost got a PM-8 Mark II that looks similar to your unit. It was defective and the technicians couldn't revive it. BTW a used PM-8 in Japan in good condition is currently quoted at an average of $500.

Excuse me, but the tech does not know anything if he cannot revive it.
Anything can be repaired, just takes patience and time.
If you can still get it, send it to a qualified tech here at AK, echowars can work wonders from what I have seen around here.
Local techs in general(with some exceptions) are lazy and wont do what is necessary to fix something.

I agree with you on your comment.

I repair for 5/6 year's now and i would not turn my back on a PM-8.

Sometimes it is a real pain in the #$&& to find the problem but most of the time it's pretty easy.

The PM-8 and Esotecs are rare over here. That makes prices much higher. The earlier but similar 1300DC sells for over $1,000 here.

I agree about the "average technician". That's how I got my SX-1250. Guy had it in his closet for 10 yrs busted, the tech told him he needed a new one. An AK regular fixed it, dirt cheap. :bigok:

Personally i prefer the PM-8 over the 1300 DC because it's face is nicer to look at.

I compared it to the legendary PM-94 yesterday and the PM-8 won in my opinion; more precize image, better focussing and placing of instruments.

The PM-94 sounded a little warmer and added some sort of strange glow over the sound but i liked it.

The PM-8 easaly defeats some of Accuphase integrated amp's like E-202 and E-206

That's good to know you like the PM-8 over Accuphase. I have the 300DC and 3650 combo, which is essentially the 1300DC separated. The 1300DC become the PM-8 with minmal changes. I've got another 300DC on the way as the 3650 has two sets of pre-outs. Looks like I'm set.

Are you going to bi-amp?

If so, why?

The sound wil not going to be any better!

But, try it and let us know

I'm going to drive two amps with a single pre. The 3650 has outputs for two amps. I want to place four speakers in the corners of my living room or I may try a stack of speakers. Anyways, as you know, the 300DC has gain controls for each channel so I should be able to adjust for good sound.

I have been kicking around the idea of getting one of those 6.1 or 7.1 HT decoders and using my vintage amps. Imagine three 300DC's driving 6 channels. This is not so far fetched. At my local electronics store, the TOTL Onkyo HT Receiver costs $5000.00. It features a toroid and large filters like the ones we like for 125 watts x 7 channels.

Thats actually what I'm moving towards now. Just assembling a set of 3 amps I like, then come more speakers.
