I have a chance to buy a set of 1994 Klipsch Belles Piano Black,in flawless mint condition for 1650.00 is this too much, even for a pair of tens?

Not particularly high. I know someone who paid $1350 for an older pair that needed substantial woodwork to look good again.
Ultimately, your own mind is the arbiter for what is too much to pay. Willing to wait an unpredictable amount of time for another chance, and end up with another uncertainty?

Nope...Belles are the pretty LaScala but they seem to go fo more money...piano black...if that is your thing are special...if they are close and you don't have to pay any shipping of any kind...you're GOLDEN...get 'em, enjoy 'em and share your thoughts with the rest of us!

NO. Absolutely not. That's a very good price, IMO.......anything like them new (LaScala II) is 5K, and used pairs in excellent condition are worth about half that.

Belles in Piano Black, special indeed.
I can't see you going wrong, and at $1650 that's a decent price. Of course Whipping out 15 one hundred dollar bills can often work wonders. The flash of cash really does speak loudly.
I have thought about selling my Klipschorns and getting some Belles, but I doubt I will.

A very fair price IMO. Not a smoking gun deal, but a hell of a lot of sonics for the money. Piano black finish would be hard for me to like, but that's just my taste. Probably forget about that when overwhelmed by the sound.

I myself love the piano black finish look - but they are hard to keep clean, then again the warmth and beauty of real wood is hard to beat. I'm not sure, but I think the piano black finish was a Klipsch upgrade that was additional $.
I just bet you get the Belles, can't wait to see some photographs of them

I've seen and heard of persons paying much more for much less. Only problem I have with Klipsch is that they tend to make you go into an entirely different direction electronics wise but, that is not such a bad thing as it will keep you out of trouble. They really stress the need for the cleanest 1st watt available.

I am a very proud owner of a pair of vintage "Belles" in walnut with black grilles, they have been upgraded with new drivers and crossovers and I wouldnt give them up for anything.
They are great speakers and that is a good price...however..something you should consider before making your purchase is what will you be running them with?
My experience (which is considerable) has proven Klipsch horn loaded speakers to exhibit very different sound characteristics depending on the electronics driving them.....for instance...I have tried every amplifier I could get my hands on with my Belles both solid state and tube from McIntosh, Krell, Conrad Johnson and many others and it didnt take long to discover that tube power is the only way to go with with the big Klipsch speakers.
As for solid state?...McIntosh was the clear winner to my ears and being a "Mac-nut" I decided to get the best of both worlds.....so in lieu of finding the right deal on "Mactube" amps I have a GoldenTube SE-40 running the mid & high horns and a Mac MC150 running the 15's.....the rest of my system is all Mac with the obvious exception of the Belles.
Bottom line is to let your ears be the judge.....if you have tube amplifiers I am sure you will absolutely melt when you hear what the Belles can do....but if you have solid state amplifiers dont be suprized if you find the horns a little bright at higer volumes
Either way...enjoy the music!
