Good afternoon, everyone,

I received a 551 today from E-bay which has certain problems, but my immediate concern is about repainting the aluminum rectangular margin around the frequency display, outside the Sansui logo. It appears someone was attempting to erase the black color. Should I use any flat black from a spray can or is there something better that will last? Are there preferred paint brands?

Thanks

Black is a very hard color to match. There are matts, flats, glosses and semi glosses as well as different shades. It's kind of hit or miss of which one will match what you have. You may have to buy several and try them. If you paint over all of the existing black, then the color/sheen match is not as important.

I've used Krylon Semi-flat Black (#1630). It has a little bit of a sheen to it but is overall fairly neutral falling somewhere between flat and semi-gloss. It's lacqur based so it can react with some paints but flows out nicely to give a uniform surface.
