I'm trying to figure out how I want to rearrainge my living room system this winter to include my Scott 233 based Tube system. It will have to share speakers with my Pioneer SA-9100 based system.

I was wondering if I can hook up 2 pair of 8 ohm speakers to the Scott. It has provisions for 4/8/16 ohm loads but I wasn't sure of the best way to do it.

I'm currently working on how I want to do the switching between amps. I fully understand the Scott should not be operated with no speakers so I'm trying to figure out how to work this out.

Thanks for any help

just connect the two sets of speakers together in parallel, then connect to the 4 ohm tap.

did it with my 233 and it worked great.

Just curious here :scratch2: Is there an advantage to doing that instead of hooking them in series to the 16ohm tap?

I personally have not noticed a difference, but then again I have not tried it that much. I guess it would sound slightly different if each pair were a different brand and model, however if it were a sweet double stack of KLH 6s I can only imagine it would be superb.

In this case it will be a pair of HPM-100's with a Pair of HPM-60's on top.

Sorry I like the Pioneers sound.

nothin wrong with that. that should be an excellent combo. Being as efficient as the HPMs are you should have plenty of volume without pushing that scott too hard.

Jordan A second question since you know the 233. I understand that two operate two pair of speakers rated at 8 ohms I need to use the 4 ohm tap. What if any problems would I run into if I ran a single pair of speakers off the 4 ohm tap?

I'm trying to figure out if I can chose to drive only one pair of my speakers at a time? The jury (my wife) is still out on weither the HPM-60's will be allowed to be stacked all the time So I'm trying to figure out if I can have both options.

I have decided to use a Jumper and block type switch where I have 6 RCA jacks mounted on a panel and a Jumper made that will connect either the top four or the bottom four RCA's. I'll have the Pioneer SA-9100 connected to the top pair the Scott 233 connected to the Bottom pair and the Speakers connected to the middle pair.

This way I will be able to completely seperate the two amps from each other both (+) and (-) poles. I even have a cool design for the cosmetics of the unit.

I can also use my headphones as a safety during warmed up switching by pluging them in to provide a load during any switching while the Scott is running.

I have run the HPM-100's with the Scott and volume is not a problem LOL at 20-25 watts they will light up our living room quite nicely.
