View Full Version : How do I access the pots on an SX-434?

My project tonight is trying to apply some DeOxit to the pots on a sx-434 I rescued from GW. I picked this up a couple months ago and could swear that it was OK at the time, with nothing more than some minor scratchiness in the pots. Now, though, it operates fine when first powered on, but the minute I adjust the controls I get LOUD piercing static and have to shut it down.

My instinct is to clean the pots, but I can't get to them. The top and bottom covers and the front panel are off, but there's still no clear path. Do I need to remove something else here?

When it works, this little unti really sounds good.

Thanks

you may need to remove the pre-amp/tone board. Its the board that has the pots on it. The 636 is like this. Remove all the retaining nuts on the pots that are holding them to the front of the chassis. The entire assembly including pots and board can be removed enough to get the deoxit straw into the openings where the pots connect to the board. You may need to bend the very end of the tip to get the deoxit down in there.

good luck.

I can see how that should work. I'm fairly new at this so I'm never sure when to stop unscrewing things and find a different route.

Many thanks for the advice, Jordan!
