Dave you better have your butt at this years fest or I'm sending some people to pay you a visit. You may not remember much from that point on but you will wake up in a dumpy Southfield Michigan hotel surrounded by AK members drinking

Grumpy as DJ???
I don't think so. Not that I have any objections to his qualifications. On the contrary, I am envious of his collection of vinyl. However, he never gets any sleep the two days before the fest. I figure that he can't pull an all-nighter, due to previous lack of sleep. :D
OTT, bigmacc, I'm ready when you are. You know the drill: Party till sun-up; around the corner, to the Deli, for breakfast, then start all over again.

Too bad you weren't there last year, 'toze. Saturday night, billfort and I worked the late shift with Brian, and, at 5:30, when nobody else was in motion, I went out for breakfast. Alone. It would have been great to have had some company.

Easy there, big man. You may get some argument on the first point, from an unexpected front. As for the second point, you know you can't let that info go across the border, into inexperienced hands. Think of the disastrous consequences! And for the third, well, we better not go there, either...

I've got a couple of irons in the fire right now, but, failing those, there's always the 'fallback' position:
Stay up all night, drink some beer, listen to music, drink some beer, philosophize, drink some beer, discuss ways to save the world, drink some beer, 3 a.m. gear shootouts, drink some beer, compare and contrast our respective national politics, drink some more beer, go have breakfast, wait for all the sleepyheads to get their sorry behinds out of bed, and jump, feetfirst, into the next day's activities.
There just are not enough hours in a day.

Now this looks like a well laid out plan. Just don't think it could be improved on.
The bad news is I can't make it. I exhibit at three antique shows in the Spring and the last two years and this coming year the Fest has landed on the weekend of one of them. My banker, AKA wife, would never agree to skipping a show to attend. :nono:
Maybe next time.

Unfortunately the fest never falls on a weekend thats good for everyone. Two other shows pretty much dictate when our show will be and it usually changes by 2-4 weeks each year.

Echo, you are a Single Malt drinker, too? I'll have some of the Bushmills Three Cask Single Malt Irish, again. Sixteen years old, and VERY smooth, not as demanding as my favourite Islay whickey, Lagavulin. The Bushmills was a big hit amongst several of the Single Malt Scotch drinkers. Had I known, I would have made sure you got some. Next time, for sure.

I think you would have to check with the Hyatt to see where they shuttle too. If you do ask them if they go anywhere near Royal Oak or Southfield. From there I could pick you up. Anywhere else and its a bit tough with my schedule. I am sure we can work something out.

I'll have a nice surprise too - clear white liquid straight from the hills of Kentuk. Good stuff, not old radiator quality. Very good stuff. Sometimes very very very good stuff. Ask and ye shall receive.
That and a back seat, it was removed last year for equipment I don't have this year. So I'd be happy to help with ferrying a reasonable distance, reserve your tickets for the U.S.S. Mercury. But be advised that the previous paragraph may come into play evenings. And mornings. Perhaps afternoons.
Just kidding. Maybe. :D

I never expected to attend but I see airfare from DCA to DTW is $123 including tax! I can get a flight that would get into Detroit at 8:00 am on the 24th. If I book what time is a good time to take off on Sunday?
grumpy
01-08-2007, 07:29 PM
Sorry I missed your question as I was very ill for the past many weeks. Anyways The show ends on Sunday at around 5 but some start to hit the road from noon on. What time to leave really depends on the flights available.
I will say that those that leave early on Sunday can miss out on some really great unclaimed door prizes. We end up drawing tickets until all prizes are claimed.
Back to you question. If you can get a flight out of Detroit Metro at say 7-8 PM I would think you would be there just about to the end. The airport is roughly 30-45 minutes drive from the hotel depending on traffic.

Coming in on the 24th is the best cost effective way. However Sat morn is prolly the hardest time for us to arrange for rides. The fest would open 1 hour after your flight arrives and everyone is busy scurrying around to make things right.
Thats not to say a member may not be able to pick you up on their way from Ann Arbor or that part of town. They would have to go pretty much right past you to get to the fest
