I can't wait! They are headlining the Little Steven's Underground Garage Tour and hit Washington DC on Nov. 26th. Picked up my tix at $20 a piece, which is a pittance, seeing as there are gonna be 4 other bands. The wife and I are gonna be happy campers.

Plus, I get to see Sylvain Sylvain tearin' up the stage!

This looks to be an excellent show.

Only downside?

It was tough to see Sylvain Sylvain, David Johansen, guitarists Johnny Thunders in spandex back in the day- it'll be horrifying to see 'em nowadays. especially Johnny, RIP...

Enjoy the show. Wonder when they're coming to Boston...

Supersuckers rock!! They have a new drummer, Scott Churilla, who used to be with Reverend Horton Heat.
Enjoy the show!
I've got the Dolls' CD, it's not bad-I like it more every time I hear it.
I was thinking of seeing them in St Louis.

I have sen them on a few of the late-nite shows like Conan, and they are really rockin' out. Sylvain is having a blast! Ya know, what I love about Syl is he has always looked like he was having fun, even when he was playing small NYC clubs to help pay the rent.

From what I hear, he was getting into a pissing match with lead guitarist Steve Conte, who complained Syl's amps were turned up too loud. But if you ask me, with Syl headlining for the first time since '77, he has every right to do whatever the hell he wants!

Wow! The show was unbelievable!!

The Little Steven's Underground Garage Tour was happenin', complete w/ Go-Go dancers in bikinis and mini skirts between sets!

The Hall Monitors are a local DC band that are fervent pure-60's R&B garage rock. The lead singer would drop to his knees and crawl on his back on the floor in front of us, all the while singing like a white Wilson Pickett. I am definitely going to make plans to see them again.

The Charms are sort of a motley group of musicians that pump out a rock/new-wave type of groove. The guitarist has some of the best rock-star moves I have ever seen!

The Chesterfield Kings are completely insane and were probably the best set aside from the New York Dolls. The lead singer was literally in our faces the entire concert, swinging from the pipes above the stage, letting the audience grab the mic and sing the chorus, crawling and kicking...hitting the air ducts with the mic stand. He walked out into the audience more than once, singing on top of the bars on either side of the room. Think post-1966 Mick Jagger with long hair, lipstick and full of ampetamines. He had the audience eating out of his hands.

The Supersuckers were VERY good. They came out in the early 90's, so I am surprised I have only heard one or two songs in their catalog. The lead singer/bassist passed his bass guitar into the audience and let us tug at the strings!! He was also up in our faces, talking to the crowd.

And the New York Dolls were fantastic!! Everyone knew all the songs...even the ones off the new album. Sylvain was hilarious and havin' a blast the entire time, letting the audience play his guitar, kissing David Johansen on the cheeks, talking it up between songs...he just loves to play and it shows. Bassist Sami Yaffa was all smiles as well, unable to keep from smiling and staring at the Go-Go dancers. Johnny Thunders' stand-in, Steve Conte, did an admirable job.

At one point, during "Dance Like A Monkey," when Syl jumped into the audience to play the solo, it took him a few bars to realize he had come unplugged! He held up the chord to the audience and everyone in the band laughed.

One thing that led to our heightened experience was that there was a group of beautiful rocker chicks next to my wife and I, and all of the bands came to our side of the stage constantly. Guitarists and singers would jump in front of them and they'd do all of their skimpy-clothing-wearing-drunk-chick moves and it led to some great moments. Conte was practically F'n one of the chicks with his guitar!! Later, I discovered a couple of the chicks are from a local Baltimore band, Blondsai.

This was the best $20 ticket you could ever buy!! Small clubs are where its at. Everyone is there to listen to Rock 'N' Roll.

The only thing that detracted from the Dolls set was David Johansen's wang! He wasn't wearin' underwear and his bulge drew you in like a magnet!! I am pretty sure he is circumsized! :lazer:

I'm totally unfamiliar with the NY Dolls. I guess I thought they were a boy band. Guess not. What is their genre?

I'm totally unfamiliar with the NY Dolls. I guess I thought they were a boy band. Guess not. What is their genre?

They are often listed as one of the major "proto-punk" bands that led to the punk explosion. From the the Velvet Underground to the Stooges to the Dolls.

They are actually a really raunchy R&B group a la The Rolling Stones, but with louder, sloppier guitars. Have you heard of David Johansen (Buster Poindexter/Harry Smiths) or Johnny Thunders? This is their original group. This is from the bio on www.allmusic.com:

The New York Dolls created punk rock before there was a term for it. Building on the Rolling Stones' dirty rock & roll, Mick Jagger's androgyny, girl group pop, the glam rock of David Bowie and T. Rex, and the Stooges' anarchic noise, the New York Dolls created a new form of hard rock that presaged both punk rock and heavy metal. Their drug-fueled, shambolic performances influenced a generation of musicians in New York and London, who all went on to form punk bands. And although they self-destructed quickly, the band's two albums remain two of the most popular cult records in rock & roll history.

Killer pic, thanks for posting!

Glad I got many a chance to see (mostly f*cked up) Johnny Thunders before he croaked.

Back some time in '92, I saw Youth Brigade get back together for a show...

How exciting I thought. I get to relive the good ol' days. I was ready to start shouting "What are we gonna do about the man in blue" and "Sink With California" etc...

But at the reunion show, the fuckers were so old and tired...

Same went for Cheetah Chrome & The Motherfuckers. Poor old Cheetah.

GIVE IT A REST!!!!

Hang up your hat while you still have a chance to go out with style!

Just one cat's opinion, who cares what I think!

Anyhow, the Dolls were one of the greatest bands of all time. Drugs, booze, androgeny and all! The best part is that they've been captured on vinyl for all eternity.

Pirate love!!!!

PS. Anybody object to the reunion to end all reunions? How about bringin' back The Mentors!

Yes my g/f saw a few of these shows, (without me!!) and raved and raved about how great they in fact were. So maybe I was being too much of a 'prima-donna' about Johnny not being there...?

Dude, tickets are $25 and under (Baltimore show was $20). How can you pass that up?!
