A quick search of the archives revealed that at least a couple of you AKers apparently own Marantz CD-5001 CDPs.

I'd appreciate a brief review/report from any of you.

I've been looking at a couple of different Chinese, tube-output CDPs (e.g. MHZS CD66, 33) but I don't think I can hang with the price they are fetching, $500 and up.

I'm thinking the Marantz would be a nice replacement for my Sony SCD 222ES changer, which is starting to act up. It probably sounds pretty good stock, and would make a good transport if/when I want to invest in a nice outboard DAC.

What do you folks think of the Marantz, sound-wise, build quality, functionally?

TIA

Mine sounds as good as any CD player I have heard. It looks sharp and build quality is surprisingly decent. The drawer works exceptionally smoothly. Operation is pretty simple and intuitive. Only minor complaint: control buttons are kind of small. Three year warranty is nice too.
