Even after sort of swearing off Darnielle after We Shall All Be Healed, I went after 2005's The Sunset Tree when it came out, have been returning to it consistently since, and listening to it on the ipod in a foreign country right now, it feels like home. The young man is a genius, IMO.

I haven't quite figured out whether to give him a thumbs up or down yet. Lyrically, he's pretty impressive. I prefer a harder edge musically though.

Put another way, I had cash to see only one band this week. Passed on the Goats last Friday and went to Twilight Singers last night. I just couldn't see him putting on a great live show. Though I know this guy from another forum who essentially took a month or 2 off this summer and followed him around on his tour

That would be a tough call for me to make either way. But I'm never in an area that provides such great dilemmas.

Darnielle's latest effort* Get Lonely* is excellent. I gave a copy to a friend and she said she couldn't get into it,I said likewise, but I think we were on different thought patterns
