Listened today to a new (to me) LP: The Guitar Artistry of Charlie Byrd. I've been a fan of Byrd since I was a kid, so I picked up this Analogue Productions reissue (of the original 1960 LP) on the used LP market. Not only is it a great performance by Byrd and his sidemen, but the quality of the recording is just phenomenal. Highly recommended.

He was awfully prolific, and an awfully good guitarist. Some of his albums would be pretty awful if it weren't for his guitar! :-)
Do you have his eponymous Crystal Clear Direct to "Disk" 45rpm 12"? One of the best recorded albums I have ever heard.

I don't, but it sounds like I should try to find a copy!

I have a Charlie Byrd two-fer...
Sugarloaf Suite (1980)
Brazilville (1982)
The thing is titled Charlie Byrd - Byrd & Brazil
I like it. Bought it at the last AK Fest for $5 I think.
Edit: Just realized I had the Bossa Nova Pelos Passaros K2 remaster as well....what a surprise...

I can probably generate a digital or analog copy of "Charlie Byrd" (for off-site archive storage, of course) if you'd like and if you're not in a hurry.
It's not too hard to find, though. I got one on eBay for $8 IIRC a few years back in fine condition.

If anyone is interested I have a recording I made several years ago of the Joe Byrd Quintet performing a tribute to Charlie Byrd concert. Joe is Charlie's youngest (I think) brother, he is an excellent bass player. I recorded this local performance onto DAT right off of the soundboard. The engineer gave me an aux out which enabled me to make my own custom mix for my recording. I have it transferred to 2 CD's, and it sounds pretty good.
Anyways, probably of interest to Byrd fans, as well as to jazz fans in general. PM me if you want to get a copy!
