As a member, what is your main draw to AudioKarma, and has it changed over your time here?

My main draw is the fact that the folks here share the same interest in vintage audio that I do. My brother and myself are the only people I know personally that share this love. AK is a great place for me to share my love of vintage with people who actually care.

Being here is one of the great pleasures of my life.

Vote early, vote often.:scratch2: I want to vote for #2, #3 and #4. In addition to those choices, another choice that is not listed but would have received my vote would have been the desire to learn about vintage audio. While I may have grown up with a lot of gear that is now "vintage" audio gear, my personal experience was only with a very narrow segment of the industry. With a few possible exceptions, it was also not in the same league as so much of the equipment that I have been able to obtain recently and have been able to learn about on AK. I learn something new on AK every day!

The individuals that make AK the outstanding community that it is are the best!:thmbsp:

I found AK a while back while searching for information on vintage gear. I have found many audio forum sites but none have drawn me in like AudioKarma.

My original attachment to this place revolved more around being able to share information and ideas with like minded audio crazies. It's still about that, but it is now more about the friends that I have made here.

Initially it was about the technical knowledge, and that is still very relevant. But my attachment to the site is now about the folks who constitute it.

I am very new here and don't really know anyone. But I am always impressed by how friendly and helpful everyone is. I appreciate the technical advice that is given so freely and because of it I am miles ahead of where I was a year ago in terms of understanding and attempting to fix my stuff. It's great to be able to talk about Audio without having to rein myself in after 30 seconds. And yes, the sense of humor here is great. I didn't cast a vote in the pole because each and every reason is equally important to me.

I found AK while looking for specific information on a vintage tuner, having previously lurked and posted a little at the "nuthouse" for two years or so. I found that the folks here were much friendlier, and it was moderated.

What keeps me here are the people, the laughter and the occasional tear. I learn something every time I log in.

Well, I have almost zero hope of ever meeting any of the people I correspond with, but the personalities and the discussion make this place like "old home". People like Paul C and dr*audio have helped me immensely, and while I'm far from being a technician beyond an amateur hobbyist, I do have some experiences to share, and even more importantly - so much to learn.

I agree with Yamahammer...All the above and then some. I couldnt imagine not being able to hang out here. Its a part of my daily routine now and wouldnt have it any other way.

Like so many have said, my initial reason for joining AK was the search for audio nirvana. What keeps me coming back everyday (since I have acheived audio nirvana:D ) is the people. The first thing I do every morning is grab a cup of coffee, and check in at AK. One of the things that I think is particularly cool is getting to talk to folks in other parts of the country, and even the world. I guess the best part is what Sandy said. You guys put up with me! I don't know -- I just sort of wandered in, and grabbed a drink, hung around, and just haven't been motivated to leave yet.

I was referred while looking for information and found something that I wanted even more. People to talk to about good audio. I'm a city dweller who does not drive so I am unable to join the Chicago audio society since they meet out in the suburbs at locations that are only accessible by car. Not that I could go anyway since when they meet, I'm usually working. So this is a great outlet. Thanks for being here.

Well, it's a mix of many things for me - but since this is an audio-centric website, I chose Option 2 - if I wasn't interested in audio/music/electronics I wouldn't have ever come here in the first place.

AK community matches my passion for analog 2 channel old stuff that belongs in the trash...err...treasure bin.

I particularly enjoy Grumpy, Tentoze, and Tosted Almond's gentle, almost Zenlike personalities...

You know, we ought to have a thread where we try and figure out any and every term/phrase/expression in audio that could also be taken as suggestive/lewd/pornographic. For example, in the fire department, we have sayings like "we go in when they're hot, and leave em wet".

Honestly, the reason why I am here is because I really enjoy AK's sense of community as well as the amazing cornucopia of knowledge stuffed into the minds of (most :D ) AK memers.

I have learned A LOT since coming aboard.

I came here because of rediscovering vintage gear. I stay because it's a truly unique place, unlike any other message board I've belonged to or belong to. :tresbon:

While we all like a good deal :yes: , that is not :no: the primary reason most of us are here.

This is an excellent place to hear about music....

I came to AK to learn and have done just that. It was hard to select that in the poll as the number one reason, but it is why I'm here. That said, it is also rewarding to have a place to go where people understand the sheer joy it is to find a pair of great old speakers by the side of the road or a classic old receiver at the flea market for $5. I try to explain to my friends or my family and they look at me as if I had lost my mind. That community that I am describing at AK is why I am here too. Thanks to all for creating this great forum.

Strange, I thought I had posted here and it did not ask me to vote so that seems to indicate that I did. A few years bck Pete (bully) told me about AK (I had been posting in AA) so I dropped in and lurked for some time. Finally saw a thread where I felt qualified to comment and have not looked back. As Rich noted, it is quite a bit about keeping good stuff out of landfills and about the satisfaction when you succeed. Main reason for staying is the friends made, even though I have yet to meet many of them face to face.

Polls indicate (very good attribution here) that people care much more about the people they work with than the work or certainly the company. That's because people are generally pretty cool, and you get to use exponents on that statement here.

Like many here, I found this site because I was looking for information and knowledge, and that is what I got while I lurked for a few months. The more posts I read, though, the more I appreciated the people here. After I started posting, sharing my experiences also became a factor. There aren't very many places where vintage-audio nuts can converse with people who share that interest. I have some locally (Hong Kong), but they are all Chinese-speaking, and I prefer English. :D As I got to "know" the people here, it became more and more about the attitudes and sense of community among the people posting here. I had to vote for that, and in retrospect, I'm not surprised that over 70 percent have voted the same. This is one "special" online place!

A lucky link from a web search pointed me here, and I have been a proud member ever since.

I stumbled on the site quite by accident. And I have been rewarded 1,000 times fold! Although I do not get the opportunity to view or post very often, I do spend the time I do have browsing the various forums for varied and general information. I like the "Live Chat" only because it's "new" technology to me (yeah, I'm a little behind) and I can get rapid response to a problem or question I may have. I can't think of any real criticism of the site nor of any of the members. Everyone has been most kind and gracious. My biggest fault is that I am not technical, not even a little, and I am becomming more and more uncomfortable investing in this type of equipment and not being able to have it repaired. So, I'm currently at a crossroad as to keep "collecting" or go into a holding pattern until I can get over this hump.

I have put together 5 or six fairly impressive (by hillbilly standards) systems over the last 30 years and thought I knew something till I came here. I like it here because the people make me think. This is where the tricks of the trade (hobby) hang out. People here actually do know something. Most important, it's fun!:banana: I just wish I had more time.

I originally came here for Information and knowledge. And I have stayed because. This is The Best Audio Site on the Web!! And the natives are friendly too. :D

I searched out AK when I was told that I had to use a "budget" when trying to build a 2 channel listening system. Just so happens that I stayed here. Everyone I have met here is non-judgemental when I ask questions and there is such a plethora of information.
I don't normally join forums, actually this was my first and only, so to me it really proves how good the people make AK.

Honestly, I don't remember why I came here.....and I sure as hell don't know why I've stayed. I mean, "people" like Justen hang out here...

May I suggest an "All of the Above" selection to the poll.
I first came here looking for info on some thrift store piece I picked up along the way and have stayed because of the people. So many people here have so much more technical knowledge than I have and are so giving of it and their time.
